A few days back, the Air Alps (formerly KLM Alps) personell announced that the airline, a sole Dornier 328 operator would replace the aircraft with larger props. The ATR and Bombardier were the prefered by the airline, yet no descision has been made. In the alps region, there are very few, if not none, that operate the ATR turboprops. Most of the airlines use the Dash, yet the Q400, the most advansed of the family is much too large, going form a mear 30 passengers to 70! The airline has made no firm choice, but has said it will do so very soon. Air Alps believes that there is no room in the region for new expansion in the amount of aircraft, but instead to revise the current fleet. After Fairchild Dornier's bankrupty, the airline has no trust in the aircraft that it now operates with.
I's sure both types will look great and dynamic in the Air Alps livery!
Air Alps looking At ATR 42/72 or Dash 8 For Expansion?

I have heard quite recently that Air A!ps wasn't in a good financial shape. Maybe the share holders could sold the airline to an other airline/group (AF-KLM?).

3,18% Beteiligungs & Finanzierungs gmbh
Personnaly, I don't think it's the right time for shopping bigger planes, but if anyway they are looking for a bigger plane to replace their 31 seater, it would be a 50 seater.
So we have:
-ATR 42-500 (48 seats)
-Dash 8-Q300 (50 seats)
The ATR is the more economical to operate of both.
As I said, I don't think they will replace their Do-328 soon, so I don't vote (I could be wrong!).

Seb.
