Re: KLM and/or AMS Amsterdam Schiphol Airport - Latest news 2025
KLM is making changes to its East African network.
Its Zanzibar route will be suspended between May 2025 and October 2025 (AF will suspend its route from March 2025 to May 2025). Demand is lower, although local rumors suggest a $44 travel insurance tax. https://www.thecitizen.co.tz/tanzania/z ... ty-4864276
Kigali (Rwanda) and Entebbe (Rwanda) will again be served 6 times a week. The return of the daily flight was planned for this summer (KLM operated a daily flight before covid). But in my opinion the problems that KLM has with the pilots (not enough pilots for the long haul) has forced the airline to provide 6 flights per week. https://www.businessinsurance.com/klms- ... perations/
Flights always optd with A330. But the retirement of A330s, I wonder what types of planes they will put on KGL and EBB ? B777-200ER but they will sonn be retired ? B787-9 ? B787-10 ? A350-900 ? The B777-300ER seems big to me. The B777-200ERs have already been deployed in Rwanda, it was at the end of 2020. https://www.airplane-pictures.net/photo ... 777-200er/
A little surprise, Nairobi will be served by a mix of B787 and...A330-300 this summer. KLM has used A330s, but it's been a long time ago. In 2008, I flown on a Nairobi Amsterdam flight in a KLM A330-200. It was Paris-Amsterdam-Nairobi-Kigali-NBO-AMS-CDG with Kenya Airways and KLM. I think that then KLM has sent its B747 Combis, then its B777s before to send its 787s.
It seems that AF is switching to A350s instead of the 787-9 this summer in Nairobi. The 787-9s are starting to be used on other routes in Africa. Bangui is one of the latest destinations added. The 787 also flies often to Conakry and Nouakchott. Probably the effect of the withdrawal of the A330s and the arrival of the A350s.
Kenya Airways leased a MD 11 from KLM at the end of the 2000s. https://www.google.com/search?client=fi ... +md11+2009
PH-AOL taken in Nairobi in August 2008. Delivered in February 2008.

ACM - the Dutch Consumer Authority - accepts the tariff increase for airlines by Amsterdam Schiphol Airport as not onreasonable:

On October 29, 2025, Dutch voters will go to the polls early, after the fall of the government on June 3, 2025. GroenLinksPvdA, (kind of "Green-Left-Labour"), currently leading in the polls along with the PVV, will present its election manifesto next Monday. The Dutch newspaper AD reports that GroenLinksPvdA the PvdA plans the closure of Maastricht Airport and Rotterdam Airport: to make way for housing. Schiphol Airport will also have to make concessions: due to a restriction on the number of flights, "...space for housing will become available..." By closing one runway at AMS??
I'm curious to see what their potential coalition partners think of this utopia...

Yeah, that will do the trick... house people close to an airport... so they can complain about the noise...Passenger wrote: 14 Aug 2025, 10:18 ...

A shortwhile after this bad news for KLM, a judge granted the two biggest KLM Handling trade unions the right to go strike.29/09/2025
Air France and Delta to appoint new ground handling partner at Amsterdam Schiphol
Air France and Delta Air Lines have informed KLM of their decision to seek an alternative ground handling partner at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport for their below-the-wing operations, including baggage loading and unloading.
This process involves inviting proposals from other service providers, after which a final selection will be made to determine who will assume responsibility for these activities going forward.
This decision has immediate operational implications for KLM, particularly for the Ground Services department. The financial and employment-related consequences of this decision are currently being assessed
https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/air- ... -schiphol/
After hearing about the above cancellation of KLM Ground Handling by Delta and Air France, the trade unions said that have they put their strike (for next Wedsnesday) on hold.
KLM Ground's last strike - on 17th September - will probably be the last one for a long period.
Berouw komt na de zonde.

Re: KLM and/or AMS Amsterdam Schiphol Airport - Latest news 2025
Air France HOP ERJ 190s now operate flights into KLM European network. This is the first time that happen since the 2 airlines merged in 2004.
The routes are : Amsterdam Nuremberg (https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/kl1846) and Amsterdam Stuttgart (https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/kl1828).
Some KLM routes to French Province are now again operated only by AF HOP while KLM replaced AF on all routes to French Province (optd by AF) few years ago.
Interesting because Air France is struggling with its own fleet. They are currently leasing 2 ASL France B737-800s and during several weeks this month, they leased 1 Air Baltic A220 YL-CSB https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/yl-csb. All AF mainline flights in Europe are now operated both by AF HOP and AF Mainline; while few years ago it was only some domestic flights from CDG and some few routes to UK, Nordics Countries, Italy and Germany from CDG
KLM Cityhopper is also struggling, they are leasing German ERJ 190 after ending the leasing contract with Eastern Airways this month
This summer AF pilots were dispatched on some KLM flights to JFK. I think this kind of closer cooperation will become more important.

Reason: a technical failure in AMS Dep 2.
