Wiloo probably has a seat in the board of directors of the Harbour.
The article aknowledges that using Ostend for cargo is not viable.
So all those companies in and around Ostend that are air cargo related are given up. They are declared as non viable. They are loosers, Wiloo is a winner.
We will have no more (heated) discussions again about old airplanes, russian "airtrucks", Kalita or MK.
We only will mention once or twice a week that 2 pallets with Spa water were loaded for Tenerife or that the coffin of a deceased Jet Air tourist was unloaded on Ostend.
Congratulations

An other article concerning OST and Ryanair: Het bestuur van de Internationale Luchthaven Brugge-Oostende gaat de Ierse luchtvaartmaatschappij Ryanair dagvaarden omdat ze nog een achterstallige schuld heeft openstaan en omdat ze contractbreuk zou plegen.
OST is suing Ryanair because the airline company still needs to pay € 245.000. From now on, Ryanair must pay in cash when it uses OST.

If Ostend can no longer accomodate cargo flights, I wonder which Belgian airport will? Brussels? Oh no, certainly not, those aircraft make noise, remember...
So Ostend should concentrate on tourism, should it? I wonder how many people in Belgium who live outside the provinces of West and East Flanders will bother to go to Ostend to take a charter flight to the Mediterranean? Instead of Antonov Ruslan's, we'll get Fokker 50's in Ostend...

Ostend Airport: private airport?
Ostend Airport was property of Flanders Region?
Soon it will belong to Ostend Town? How much will Ostend Town pay for it?
It will be the NV Plassendale, but what's the difference? What party membership is needed to become manager or get or keep a job? Or Wiloo-membership?
Will the airport be for the exclusive profit of the town (enterprises): will only traffic that is useful for Ostend be welcome? And that to make Ostend a tourist and economic metropolis.
This means clearly: no cargo. Is that the end of Ostend cargo?
Passengers will board the cruiseships in Ostend harbour... This looks like the airport will not be accessible for everyone, in other words, will the airport then be of "openbaar nut", or for private use?
Private use airports are licensed differently.
Thomas Cook seems to have lobbyed effeiciently. But can Flemish enterprises also use the 'private' Ostend airport? Will they have the same advantages as these multi-national operators, or will this project definitely kill the flemish operators?
After making the live of the belgian airlines impossible, now the same government member(s) are preparing an espada the put a final to the belgian touroperators.
Great thinking...in Ostend.
PS Is Wiloo sponsored by these multi-nationals?

Boss of the harbour: Van de Lanotte (SPa)
Boss of Biac: Van den Bossche (SPa)
Wouldn't it be better if EBOS and EBBR had the same boss? So like with every company in Belgium, one daughter compagny kills the other?
My opinion is that the political party SPa is trying to break down EBOS so they can make more money out of EBBR.
But wouldn't it be better if they tried to flourish them both? I have my doubts!!!!! Politicians don't think with their minds but with their bankaccount!!!!!
Hoping for a good future for EBOS
People of Flanders: DON'T VOTE SPa (WILOO&GROEN!)IN 2006!!!!!

Where have you been the last 2 months? Biac has been sold to Macquerie (or something like that), an Australian group. They hold 70% of the stock, with the Belgian government having only 30%...UFO wrote:Boss of the harbour: Van de Lanotte (SPa)

Please leave politics out of aviation discussions, only bad things can happen wen you involve it... (see Airliners.net)
I will say this though: No politician (of any party) in his right mind would dare to do anything that brings more old & noisy cargo traffic to EBBR...

I can understand the action Ostend Airport has undertaken against Ryanair, but :
1. Ryanair doesn't send any planes to Ostend anymore. Diverted flights usually go to Liège.
2. This may very well blow the last chance of Ryanair ever opening up another route from Ostend.
Don't get me wrong, I think Ryanair should not be treated with kids' gloves. It's only fair that Ryanair should get a piece of its own medicine.
