Fog / cancellation flights

Question for our experts...

If there's a cancellation of a flight because of fog...
Does it mean that there's too much fog on the airport where the departure takes place, or too much fog at the airport where the arrival will take place?

I'm going to Warszawa tomorrow, departure in Charleroi. There expecting some big fog at specific places in Belgium. Should i be scared?

And like that's not enough: it's snowing in Warszawa

Yes you should be scared !.

This happened to me a few weeks ago, flight from Chaleroi to Dublin.

There is absolutely no traffic when there is fog around Chaleroi Airport.

As I can myself expert in the weather

, there could be (always "presumable" as this is only a forecast) trouble for tomorrow. Fog can be advected from France, "closing" CRL in the morning hours, possible for all day long. Fog is not easy to predict, but CRL is very sensitive for this phenomena. If the WAW flight has to arrive, it could be diverted to BRU (at least if no fog over there). So keep tuned on all weather channels (including mine

), or give a ring to meteo CRL self via this link.

Hello

Well i guess most of the landings will be delayed/Cancelled or Diverted by
thick fog , but it doesn't affect that much Departures i guess.

I think landing in fog is more dangerously and more difficult , than taking off in fog , even with the ILS system.

So i would rather be scared to land than to take off in fog. But i don't know what the pilots would think about that!

PS; i just assume this , i'm not confirming

Many people complained about landing at Charleroi and thinking it was Brussels.
I wonder if they complain if they land at Brussels- where most ought to be.

When there is fog at Charleroi they will mostly be diverted to Liège.

Don't worry your plane will leave but probably with some air traffic control restrictions (SLOT) maybe a heavy slot!! hehe

I don't realy care about the landing in Charleroi, I'm landing in Charleroi on monday and i start working again on tuesday.

I only wanna be able to see my girl in Poland. Reading the posts over here the chance is less big that they cancell departures at Charleroi than arrivals....

If I'm correct, departures are less affected by fog than landings, but they are not completely unaffected. If the airport is under minima for landing, that means that a departing aircraft cannot return to it in case it would need to.

Departing with fog should be no problem. I thought the minimum is 125m RVR for T/O.
Landing the same. It depends on the ILS CAT in use or available. The difficulty in landing comes with the Decision Hight where you should see at least 3 lights of the approach light system.
If the FOG is too thick.... Than there is a possibility for a delay and SLOT change or even a cancellation!! (on ground)

If weather changes during flight it could mean another airport to go.

But don't worry.. I am sure you will fly and see your Girlfriend!!! 8)

Do flights cancelled due to fog fall into the 'not our fault' category for compensation, as stated in the new EU airline passenger's rights which will be in effect from Feb. 17th?

Yes, fog is onforeseen weather conditions. Which means: the airline has to assist and help the client, but if any costs have to be made, it's the client who has to pay for it. Costs can be drinks and meals if there's only a delay, or accommodation and local transport if a flight is cancelled.

Most of the airlines don't surcharge for reroutings, as long it can be done with own flights. If the pax have to be rebooked onto another carrier, the airline will negociate a rate with them.

Yup, I got the bad experience to have a BRU-AMS flight cancelled (scheduled with a KLM F50) and thus missed my next flight from AMS

Anyway, we just can't do anything against the weather...!

Well, it was already my 4th time with Wizz and it just gives what i need, nothing more, but just what i need.

I paid 80 € for my ticket, when you know the date you travel 2 months before you actually are always sure about this price (taxes included)

I arrived by car in Charleroi, checked in, i had only hand-bagage and they didn't bother about my extra plastic bag, so...

So i went true the ID-control, waited for the permission to go on the plane.

Inside the plane the seats where comfortable and clean as always. Crew was very friendly, and you can ask them anything you want (as far as possible ofcourse

Everything went just perfect. My view is that a LowCost Airline has to offer me:
Low Cost
Safety
Friendly Cabin-Crew
and be on time and to anything possible to not let flights be cancelled.

You can all find that in Wizz...

No company is perfect, but i like it with Wizz.
