Spotting at Philipsburg St-Maarten

Post by twan01 »

Is there anybody on Luchtzak who has experience with holidays and spotting at St-Maarten ?

Planned to go there next year, so any information about spotting, hotels, personal experiences, etc... is very welcome.

Seasons Greetings :D :D :D

Hello twan01.

I shouldn't know wich hotels, etc...would be good.

I do know that you will have real fun swimming wile the 747's or 340's
are flying right above you. The airport is located at a thin connection between 2 island parts, so that the runway blocks the entrance, so if you have to go to the other part of the island, you have to pass the runway
very close. That's why it's so popular.

Don't expect too much!!! It's very nice spotting there, all those big planes,
but only a couple of big planes in a day visit St. Maarten and also little
smaller planes i think. (anyone to confirm...don't know for sure!)

In every case, hope you find a good hotel, and enjoy you holiday
as well spotting!

Merry Christmas: Yannick 8) (hothothot up there???)

Just take a look at airliners.net and fill in st maarten. From the beach you can almost touch the aircraft. I thought that only KLM, Corsair and Air France operates wide bodies to SXM, but this info is only based on the pictures at airliners.net. Never been there myself unfortunately. :(

Im pretty sure there is quite a few commuter flights as well as american visits from Continental and American to compliment the long haul Klm and Air France Planes.

I know some hotel (Maho Beach Resort Hotel), next the airport.

It has four stars, and it costs for 9days and 7 nights €999 for one person (flight+hotel)
(I have a travel brochure from the netherlands Antilles and
prices are all around the €1000.

I hope i could help you,
