Your favourite football-club ?

Post by luchtzak »

Hi all,

since some members allready asked to start a topic about this in our new forum I will start with this topic ;-)

My favourite club is KV Mechelen since I was a little kid! Now I live in Ghent but last year I did 190 kilometers to watch the game on Saturdays (up and down travel).

KV Mechelen is the last Belgian Cup Winners Cup Winner and the last Belgian Supercup Winner, an honour that will last for decades if you look at the current low quality Belgian soccer!!

This year we relegated to 3th division, normally we should have downgraded to 4th province-division but thanks to the supporters we earned enough money to restart in 3th! I did car-wash and sold calendars!

You can say that I am a die-hard KV Mechelen fan! I visit www.kvmechelen.be very often as well as the official supporters-forum at www.kvmfans.be !

Now I am allready planning to watch as much as possible Spanish and Italian soccergames! Because of my job I can do nightstops in Italy and Spain! I allready watched Real Betis Sevilla - Deportivo La Coruna (0-2) and Valencia - FC Sevilla (2-0) but I am looking forward to Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan and Real Betis Sevilla again! This weekend I visited the famous Estadio Santiago De Bernabeu of Real Madrid!

So... what is your favourite team?

greetings,

Bart

Well, I was born in Anderlecht, so it's kind of normal that I'm a big fan of RSC Anderlecht (http://www.rsca.be).

Let's see how they'll do in the champion's league this year
Now I am allready planning to watch as much as possible Spanish and Italian soccergames!
You lucky guy. Man, it's great working at SNBA, you can even watch soccer games in foreign countries when you're on nightstop
This weekend I visited the famous Estadio Santiago De Bernabeu of Real Madrid!
That's a magifisent stadium. I've never been there, but from what I allready saw from it 8O

Knowing that from now on Luchtzak is really hating me ... I'm a fan of KFC Lierse.

I already visited some famous football grounds last years.

I saw the AC Milan-Piacenza play in San Siro in Milan. Last year I saw FC Barcelona-Tenerife in Nou Camp. I also visited the stadium of La Coruna: very close to the beach !!!!

My favourite club? Any Belgian club playing a foreign team, and of course the Red Devils.

I keep some nostalgy for FC Liège, which I saw live against Atletico Madrid in better times.

But now it'll play against Malinwa in 3rd division. :(

I follow the results of the Belgian national team, especially in last year's World Cup. I follow the results of Genk because Wesley Sonck is superb, and also Brugge, because I like the place. Contrary to popular belief, not all us English girls adore Beckham, I cannot stand the sight of him!!!

Well Andre, no one's ever asked me that before, so I'm not quite sure what to say!!
The football one is quite easy. Over here in England, all we see in our national newspapers on a daily basis is David Beckham, his wife, his children, his new house in Spain, what he's wearing, what he's doing in China etc. We've had this saturation coverage since the World Cup last year, and when Beckham had damaged his foot, it was dreadful in the English newspapers. The only England team member who ever received praise when the team won was Beckham (some people forgetting that football is a team effort). I made a point of supporting another team which did not contain him!! Belgium had been my holiday choice for the past couple of years and so it was an easy choice of who to support!! I thought Wilmots seemed to have a less inflated ego.
Why I like Belgium - I'd always liked the look of Brugge, I like preserved places which are picturesque rather than purpose built holiday resorts and really hot places, and I decided I would like to visit. Everyone from my part of the country catches a ferry from Hull to Zeebrugge to reach Belgium, but not me, when it comes to booking Belgian holidays I am a travel agent's nightmare!! I used to see alot of Sabena when I was flying to other places, there was always one of their aircraft parked alongside the one I would be going on, and the last year I saw them at LHR, in 1994, one of their 737s taxied past my aircraft to take off in front of us. I liked the name "Sabena" and was determined to fly with them one day. In 2000 I got my wish!! I crossed to the other side of the country (literally) to fly on SN2174 from MAN to BRU. It was a wonderful flight, with a superb cabin crew. I had the week in Brussels and visited Brugge, not the usual tourist way of a guided coach trip, but on the train, much more fun and a better way to experience Belgium. Most British tourists take the coach option and to me, they miss out on alot. The food in the restaurants was great and even in the constant rain that we had, I couldn't help but notice that the place had its own atmosphere. The beer of course was superb, and I decided that I would go back and experience more. In 2001 I had nine days in Brugge (which included September 11th), in 2002 I had another nine days in Brugge and visited new places (by train of course!) and in five weeks I am having nine days in Mechelen (completely new to me) and visiting more places. Sorry if I've gone on a bit, but I didn't really know how best to explain it.

Comet,

The next time you should visit Antwerp (great city !!!!!!!!) and "De Kempen" (northern part of Belgium, on the right hand side of Antwerp, near the Dutch frontier).

Great to meet a UK citizen who is not totally crazy about Beckham. Being an amateur football player myself, I have to admit that he is slightly more talented than I am, but on the other hand he's not that fantastic as the British press and Beckham himself seem to think.

I prefer Zidane or Figo, who are really good football players and who have more in their feet than only a good assist and a good free kick as Beckham at the end does ....

As I was born (a long time ago  ) in Westerlo, the pearl of the Kempen (Campine in French), I confirm: it is a green, sandy, wooded area ideal for (very) quiet holidays.

So André, you should be a fan of KVC Westerlo !!!!

And Comet, De Kempen also has some old retired military airfields with a lot of general aviation nowadays (Weelde - EBWE and Zoersel - EBZR).

Actually I used to fly gliders on Zoersel as an air cadet. It is really great to soar above the green fields and woods of De Kempen ....

I stopped gliding when I went to the University and promised myself to return after my studies, but up to now I manage to use my money and time for other things ..... But one day .... !!!!!

I should, but I am not, although I evidently have some sympathy for that team. My heart remains with FC Liège, as explained above.

Although I live a few hundred meters from "Malinois", I have no intrest in football. When they are playing a home match, I only have to take an alternative route home due security.

Ladies and Gentlemen
I am an Englishman who loves aviation and football and lives in the Kempen (Just) and can recommend it to Comet...
As for my favourite team, it has to be Newcastle United. Although I wasn't born there I was brought up there and that is where my heart lies. As they say you don't choose your football team, your football team chooses you. (Maybe all those Man Utd supporters who have never been to Manchester should remember that). :?
Best Regards

As 2 other English members have mention the team in red from Manchester I have to hold up my hands and say that I am a United fan (plus a non-league team Altrincham), having been born 7 miles(12km) from Old Trafford. my wife who also comes from Manchester is a big Man City fan so we get to have some great arguments!!!

I have no real connections to Belgian footie but do support my son's team K Kampenhout SK but they do disappoint! I have been lucky enough to see Belgium play twice at Heysel ( Scotland and Czech Republic) and win.

My favourite stadium, after Old Trafford is the Noucamp in Barcelona, but I would like to go to Ajax in Amsterdam, only having seen it from outside.
