Eurowings Discover is introducing various new short-haul routes, from Frankfurt to Dubrovnik, Ibiza, Mahon, Mykonos, Preveza and Thira, as well as Munich to Preveza and Skiathos. All flights begin in summer 2023, with A320 or A321.

Could someone please explain the difference between Eurowings and Eurowings Discover and why the LH Group felt the need to have two different AOCs?

According to the German forum, some of the reasons are based on the implication of the state stake during the crisis.

Lufthansa was intending to transfer touristic routes from the hubs to a lower cost operating platform, as it became clear that Condor might go to a competitor (eg LOT). A distinctive name /brand should apply as Eurowings is a brand used for non hub P2P, but during the pandemic apparently the state influence was to minimize the investments into a new brand and thus Eurowings Discover was born. An educated guess might be that soon the Eurowings brand would move away.

The current positioning is clear, similaryl to Edelweiss in Switzerland - touristic long haul and main touristic short haul routes from the 2 hubs - FRA first and in time MUC as well.

Eurowings will add connections from Prague to Geneva, Rhodes and Corfu in 2023. The Prague programme now comprises a total of 18 routes, which are served by three stationed aircraft.
