Ryanair has announced it will launch a new route from Bournemouth to Malta in summer 2022 on 29 April.

Ryanair has complained to the European Commission about legislation which could cut back on flights to and from Warsaw from 01 May 2022(*), because it believes that the list of prioritised destinations unfairly favours LOT Polish Airlines.

(*) An announced strike by Polish air traffic controllers will severely hamper air traffic in the country from 1 May.

Ryanair is in talks with the Canary Islands to reopen the bases on four islands of the archipelago, and is also evaluating the Menorca base and with interest in Spanish regions, such as Cantabria or Galicia.

Ryanair announced a new winter maintenance agreement with Caerdav (UK), which will see the airline undertake two lines of heavy maintenance at their MRO facility in Cardiff.

Ryanair Group chief executive Michael O’Leary said the Boeing management needed to step up and deliver aircraft or make way for a new team in light of the aircraft maker’s issues with delivering planes to the airline group.

Ryanair has opened its first aircraft heavy maintenance facility in Ireland at Shannon Airport, delivering an investment of €10 million and creating 200 high-skill jobs.

Ryanair announced its biggest ever UK winter 2022/23 schedule with 13 new routes to exciting destinations such as Barcelona and Turin. This brings Ryanair’s total winter routes to/from the UK to 449.

In other news, Ryanair has a penalty of €9 million upheld by the Paris Court of Appeal in connection with non-declared work in France and the fraudulent use of E101 foreign worker employment certificates.

Ryanair called on the Hungarian government to scrap what it called a “misguided” new tax levied on departing passengers as part of efforts to rein in a rise in the budget deficit. This tax of between €10-25 per departing passenger from 01 July 2022, will irreparably damage Hungarian tourism, connectivity, traffic and jobs.

Hungary has ordered an immediate consumer protection probe into Ryanair, a day after the airline said it would pass on new windfall taxes to consumers.

Ryanair Group chief executive Michael O’Leary said that bookings at the airline are strengthening and he expects summer fares to be between 7% and 9% higher than pre-pandemic levels.

Ryanair cabin crew in Spain have called for a six-day strike in late June and early July 2022 over a collective agreement.

Ryanair announced its biggest ever Birmingham winter 2022/23 schedule, with an additional based aircraft — a B737-8200 — and five new routes to destinations such as Billund, Grenoble, Santander, Stockholm, and Toulouse.

In other UK news, Ryanair has reached a pay deal with pilots’ union Balpa on post-Covid pay restoration for its UK pilots to 2026.

Ryanair announced its comeback to Belfast International Airport with a summer schedule following the reopening of its base from summer 2023. Ryanair will start with 12 routes from Belfast International, operating over 115 weekly flights.

Ryanair announces its return to Strasbourg airport. From November 2022, the carrier will offer a twice-weekly connection to Porto.

Ryanair said it would appeal to the courts after Hungary fined it for passing on the cost of a special business tax, worth US$2.1 billion in total, following a consumer protection investigation.

Ryanair launched its biggest ever winter schedule to/from its 21 UK airports with 21 new routes to winter sun and new city break destinations, such as Asturias, Catania, Edinburgh, Klagenfurt, Leipzig, and Lapland.

This is nothing new. Each year he is launching something like this. This is just to receive the needed discounts. He never did what he promised to do at the beginning, to create a huge base, to pull out SN, etc.

On the other side it would not be bad if they could leave. Bring in again more quality, good service via the airlines. Bring back Vueling with more flights bcs they cancelled more flights bcs of Ryanair. And it would be also a very good deal for SN
