Reasons are the higher taxes at AMS, the long queues, lack of staff
Good news for BRU ! Maybe will they any aircraft based in the summer season like Transavia ??

Very bad for AMS the tax increase, long queues, staff shortage last months ! Maybe a chance to see also Easyjet move some flights to BRU to avoid higher taxes ? Ryanair is in cold with Brussels Airport so it's a good opportunity
In an interview today with Easyjet, they expressed their wish to stay at AMS and to not downgrade there. They want to offer as much flights for lower prices. If they would move out, there business plan failed. They would like to break to monopoly at AMS.

Thai Airways has to try it again in some time. They were flying the route for many years and upgraded it since then. So it means that there is potential. If we see other airlines to that destination, they are also careful.

Your other destinations. Florida will not work. It was tried many times, Miami and Orlando, but was discontinued very fast by TUI. Even AA never tried bcs no potential. Also the South Coast is no sence. Air Belgium is simply not known. Delsay also tried and also stopped. Mexico, we see that it is also slow with TUI. Varig was flying for many years between Brazil and Belgium. It was a good destination a few years ago but the glory and potential faded away.

What Air Belgium very urgently needs to do is to start negotiations with other airlines. Otherwise they will be never successful without interline agreements.
They have a huge potential at BRU, but I think politics is keeping them away of being successful.

Like I mentioned before, the CIC countries are the niche market now.
Hey Atlantis,
which countries do you mean by CIC countries? Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, .. ???
With the present war in Ukraina, which will last a few years, I do not see a realistic possibility to fly to these countries,...Their leaders are closer to Putin than to any other political leader.
Pls let me know what is CIC ??
Thanks

I think he means CIS: commonwealth of independent states, which are ex-soviet states.

Hi JOVAN2,

Was a typo, it is CIS. Some of those countries are against Russia already for years. Some others have now, like Azerbaijan, much closer ties with Europe. Moldova has already a connection with BRU.

While it'll take some time, Vistara and Air India are merging with SQ taking a 25% stake in the new carrier and the fact they are adding new aircraft including widebodies, do you think they could start a route from BRU either from Delhi, Mumbai or Singapore or from several of them?

We reported about it on 30 November: https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/air- ... h-vistara/

But I wouldn't expect a route to Brussels ant time soon.

Not really a new destination, but resumption of a former destination that was also operated by CityJet with the infamous Sukhoi SSJ100.

Given the fact this destination was not in the network for a couple of year we can also call it "new" destination. This is the way brussels airlines and luchtzak call it it the press release as well.

Not Aviation24.be aka luchtzak: we say "new or resumed" destinations: BLL, WAW, ZRH are "resumed".

Ok not luchtzak indeed, my mistake, but Brussels Airlines stated itself as a "NEW" destination and there is nothing wrong to say that. Anyway is that so important?

We are used to these PR stunts for years with SN and and their "new destinations". Each year we get Dubrovnik, Palma and Antalya stuff as "new destinations"...
At least they'll get factory fresh new planes, so let's see the bright sight, it took them 21 years.

Not sure whether it will happen in Summer 2023 or whether it will happen at all, but President Ferdinand Marcos Jr of the Philippines (nicknamed "Bongbong") has been discussing with Brussels Airport CEO Arnaud Feist about an air link between Brussels and Manila.

Incredible news for Brussels Airport if this happen ! Philippines Airlines had never land before in Brussels right ? Do you think that any codeshare with SN is possible to attract more passengers on these flights ?

This is exactly what is needed to convince also other carriers. Singapore Airlines loaded their flights but then COVID arrived. Let's hope they also will put the step again.

Hopefully with codesharing of SN

Airlines usually start new routes based on profitability forecasts, not because someone else started operating a flight to Manilla.
Yields on flights to the far east are quite low, the ME-3 are perfectly positioned to operate, cost efficient and comfortable one stop trips.
If there would be a strong business case for non-stop flights to the region they would have existed since long.

Indeed, the competition from the ME3 is overwhelming. Daily connections (sometimes double daily) to every important city in Asia. via Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Financially weak airlines like SN or Philippine airlines will never be able to compete.

The only Asian cities which can be successfully connected with BRU are Bangkok, Hong Kong and maybe Singapore. and Beijing when China opens up again after Covid and economical crisis.

Just as a reminder. I referred to Singapore Airlines as this airline was going to start flights again between SIN and BRU. But COVID arrived at that time with a closed airspace. Loaded flights with the A350.
As Asia is very secure with flights, it takes time. In meantime we lost almost each connection. Only Hainan is flying. But Bangkok and Hong Kong are removed. Tokyo will be for later again.

Ethiopian will temporarily increase its capacity to 12 weekly flights between March 28 and May 20. Flights will be operated by B787 via Vienna (5x) and directly by A350 (7x). The airline will then remove the one-stop flights, meaning that Brussels will finally have daily direct ET flights, in the likes of London and Paris.
