Turkey’s Freebird Airlines will commence a range of charter flights from Dubrovnik to a number of European destinations including Berlin, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Hannover, London Gatwick, Manchester, Paris, Marseille, Brussels and Vienna, through its European subsidiary. Services will commence on February 21 and are being operated on behalf of the W-Touristic tour operator. Such flights were maintained over the winter months prior to the coronavirus pandemic as well. Operations will be performed by the 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

Hello Guys,

Simple question:

Why it's "seems" easy to open news routes for airbelgium and "difficult" for Brussels ?

- strategy moment : with a start expansion plan for airbelgium (who permits debts) and a demanding shareholder for brussels (who asks benefits) ?
- cost structure : lighter for airbelgium and the weight of the salary bills for Brussels ?
- size : agile for airbelgium and quite heavy structure for brussels ?
- market orientation : leisure & cargo for airbelgium vs. africa & european network for brussels ?
- management : to risky for airbelgium and more "long term" for brussels ?
- a bit of all bullet points below ?
- ...

quite curious about your answer :-) !
(sorry for my bad english)

The shareholding may be an answer, less anxious/pushy to get a return on investment in the short term for Air Belgum, younger/leaner company has a smaller cost base, business customers want multiple frequencies and convenient schedules, leisure customers want cheap fares first.

Also, when an airline already has 100 destinations in its network, finding profitable destination 101 is a lot harder than when the airline has only five and is looking for the sixth.

Not sure Air Belgium Cargo enters into the equation. CMA CGM (for A330s) and Hongyan (747) dictate the schedule and network, Air Belgium operates the flights.

They are two totally different companies, they both operate aircraft, that’s about the only thing they have in common.
Comparing them doesn’t make any sense, you could as well ask why Real Madrid became champion in Spain and Union didn’t in Belgium.

I guess this means SN will offer soon more frequencies? Or bigger equipment?

How many flights/week they have (LY)?

Interesting but strange at the same time. Those are exactly destinations where a lot of them are living. It seems that it is not profitable. I hope that SN can fill the gap if they have a spare plane and crew. Where is the time that they flew the A321 on it

Ryanair is also cancelling it's TLV route (out of CRL) if I'm not mistaken. I even thought I read somewhere SN was also cancelling TLV which would leave Belgium without direct TLV link, but this seems strange to me.
