Survey on the willingness to travel in times of the Corona pandemic / Fall edition

Post by Ticlon »

What keeps YOU from travelling? In cooperation with Amadeus, we at the Institute for Aviation and Tourism (IAT) are happy to share our trend survey asking YOU about your leisure travel behavior and needs during the pandemic.

Click: https://bit.ly/2HKxu4W

Please participate until October 14th (takes about 8 minutes) and share with your colleagues and friends worldwide, if possible. You‘ll help us analyzing the tremendous implications of Covid-19 on the global travel industry by giving us a clear understanding of what you want to be changed during and after the pandemic.
Your opinion on aviation24 forums is of particular interest to us to be able to analyze possible differences by nationality. Your answers will of course be anonymous and the results will only be evaluated in aggregated form.

I will share the results of the survey with you in the forums as soon as they are available.

Thank you in advance!

The results of the previous survey can be found here (German only): https://amadeus.com/de/insights/blog/tr ... -juli-2020

Better late than never I present you the results of the survey. In total, we had 750 participants which were predominantly German.

Some highlights include:
- Travellers are more pessimistic of when to return to normal travel behaviour in autumn than they were in summer
o Germans are more pessimistic than other participants
o People that did fly this year were more optimistic than those that did not
- Entry restrictions and quarantine rules are the main factors that keep people from travelling
- A third of the participants are influenced positively by testing opportunities
o These people are also more willing to share data for contactless travelling
o And are also willing to pay extra for a guaranteed Corona-safe travel experience
- Speed is the key for testing: Most travellers value speed of getting the results and testing time the highest
- Younger people are more willing to upload biometric data into an app
o However, those that already did, are evenly distributed through age group and gender (about 7%)

If you are curious about further results you can check the official blog post by Amadeus here:

Furthermore, you can download a presentation of the results directly from the IAT under this link:

A big thank you to everyone here who participated in our survey!

Do you have a view on how many % had the covid already and if the answers differ for those ?
I expect the fear level to be very different
My messages reflect my personal opinion which may be different than yours. I beleive a forum is made to create a debate so I encourage people to express themselves, the way they want, with the ideas they want. I expect the same understanding in return.

Because of GDPR we did not ask about health-related information. However, when taking data about whether a participant had already been in quarantine as proxy value, I do not see any significant correlation to fear-related factors. But such people are more likely to avoid crossing borders, which shows again that people seem to be more annoyed by governmental restrictions on traveling than by a risk of infection when planning a trip.
