New rule for images in your signature

Post by luchtzak »

Dear members,

we have seen a growth in the size of the avatars lately, the last one that we saw was 514 pixels * 141 pixels 8O

Therefor we like to implement this new rule:

- image-size in signature not bigger than 500 pixels * 60 pixels (if it's almost that size it's okay)

please change the image in your signature if it doesn't comply.

thanks,

Bart

Just my opinion:

Why don't we simply ask not to use any images in the signature ?

When everybody has images in the signature (some of them flashing, other ones with animations, or simply with flashy colours) like on other forums it quickly becomes irritating to read the topics.

I would find it much better without any pictures in the signature.

Anyway that's only my 2 cents. If you admins decide the contrary I will live with it ;)

I have to agree with Avro, on some forums it looks like a X-mas-tree ;)

OK, A forum can't be a color book. But I made my signature myself and I'm quite proud at it ... made it already smaller a while ago cause it looked too big ... I don't think it's very big now :?:

I allso think it's a good idea to get rid of them, the avatar is enough for me... I personally find it really anoying sometimes...

It's a very nice signature you've made Rutger I really like it. It's not big, but imagine if everybody (or at least 60-70% of the people) has such a signature. When reading long topics such as the one over DHL we had a couple of days ago, you would see those banners every few lines again and again and again. It can be very annoying.

If only a couple of members have that I don't mind, but when the admins say it's "legal" to have them you can be sure that there will be more of those in the future.

That's all

Ciao

I was one of those people with a signature. I think a month ago, Bart has sent me a PM saying he has nothing against signatures but he asked me to make it smaller, what I did. It was 504*60, 4 pixels too big ;)
But to be honest, I have to agree with Avro, so I decided to remove my signature because topics without any signature in it are more pleasant to read. Especially when you have a small resolution, all those signatures can be annoying.

Me too, some look like the Makro parking... full of advertising.

"Ban the banners, Ben!!!"

But like a nice avatar, a moving one, the gif ones? I like.

"Give more avatars with gifs!"

So it seems that more and more members are against images in the signature?

indeed Fons, an avatar is more than enough, and also personal (but this is an personal opinion ;) )

I have also decided to get rid of the image in my signature. I agree that it makes the forum harder to read when most members have an image in their signature.

yes, indeed some signatures look like an advertisment (banner) and I'm also the opinion the avatar should be enough.

Yes, and there are other means to introduce your new VA (e.g. flight simulation-forum)

Why don't we do a democratic vote and see what comes out?

Good proposition but I just remembered that in the past people 'faked' the polls by creating fake nicknames just to vote. :? :?

Well those members are gone now, and everybody knows the consequences in case there is such a cheater....

So why don't try the vote ?

Blackhawk, I agree with you: signatures can be pieces of art... However they turn threads into Christmas trees and the loading of a page can be slower than needed....

Slightly :offtopic: , your latest avatar is really cool. :lookaround:

Note to Mr Ryanair: As you probably remember I am to fly with you(r airline) in a few days and would really appreciate if you could make sure I get flight attendants as pretty as in Blackhawk's picture.

It's not only the problem that signatures can look like a banner or advertisement.
But it will also slow down the forum for our members still using a dailup connection.
They have to wait longer and longer with all those images in the signatures.

Best Regards,
Yvo
