South Africa’s government said a deal to sell a 51% stake in bankrupt state-owned South African Airways to a group of private investors isn’t at risk after aviation veteran Gidon Novick resigned from the proposed new owner’s board.

We know more about the creation of a Pan African group between Kenya Airways and South African Airways

The deal is expected to be finalized in 2024.

The 2 companies should keep their names. But I don't understand because we are talking about a single AOC :?: It seems to me that the companies members of IAG, of the Lufthansa group and Air France KLM have their own AOC and not unique for the group. Unless I'm wrong.

The group will have a network of more than 50 destinations

Eventually having a fleet of 100 planes in the future ( 41 currently), which would therefore make the 2nd largest company in Africa behind Ethiopian.

South African Airways resumes its Johannesburg Abidjan route from 14NOV23. This route was previously served via Accra in 2010s with A330. It was already a resuming because if i m right this route was served early 2000s with SAA B767-200ER.

This time SAA will compete with Air Cote d'Ivoire which operates weekly service Abidjan-Kinshasa-Johannesburg with an A320Neo.

SAA plans to add 22 destinations by March 2025 : 3 intercontinental, 4 in SA and 15 regional (i guess in whole Africa). Any thoughts ?

You can see below the map of Airports Company South Africa targeted destinations. Some destinations are now served. But in Africa, i guess it will be some SAA former routes : Dakar, Cotonou, Brazzaville

This is no surprise since AB left. Even though it's a target of the airport group, not SAA

But if SAA is STAR than it makes sense there is already a natural traffic between Belgium and South Africa but if they can use the hub in addition it could work.

I agree 100%, but I guess they will restart the usual big cities (Frankfurt, London, Paris) before thinking about us

OUTA - the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse - is a South African registered non-profit civil action organisation that focuses on exposing government corruption and the abuse of taxes and public funds. OUTA today reports that the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) interim report (link down below) to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) on 21 November reads like a horror story of gross and excessive plundering of the once leading state-owned entity South African Airways (SAA).

Just one example (source newspaper The Citizen, link down below): "...Former chair and now delinquent director Dudu Myeni swapped an Airbus A330 wide body order for smaller A320 aircraft; in turn Airbus refunded R824 million (some 40M Euros) in pre-order payments and securities, but the money is missing..."
