Re: Rebuilding the Terminal of Brussels Airport after the 22/03/2016 terror attacks
Will it 'just' be a reconstruction of the existing design and lay-out or is it also a renovation/re-design to the 'newer' look of Departure Hall 2 (check-in TC & JAF cfr: Pics) or the look & feel of the Connector?
Re: Rebuilding the Terminal of Brussels Airport after the 22/03/2016 terror attacks
According to the CEO of BAC, it won't be a simple copy-paste of the pervious design/lay-out. They want to completely "renew" the terminal. I hope they don't take the departure hall 2 as an example, I've never liked the generic white look of it. It looked as if it was never finished...
I hope they'll go for the look & feel of the Connector. I also hope they'll redesign the (outside!) front of both terminals and INTEGRATE them. Now you have 2 totally different fronts, an old one and an even older one. Btw, the front of departure hall 2 looked really, really ugly. So I hope they'll go for a totally new integrated front with a high 'roof' structure, covering the kiss&ride zone.

I would really rather they get some acceptable passenger facilities running as soon as possible.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, a part of the departure hall will be open before summer, but only with a functional design, so that more then 800 passengers can be checked in per hour.
In about 14 days, a decision will be made about the future of the departure hall (it is not mentioned what this decision could be)

Re: Rebuilding the Terminal of Brussels Airport after the 22/03/2016 terror attacks
Priority now is in trying to accommodate 100% of demand by the summer. So don't expect big changes in the design, systems, etc. There is no time for that now
Re: Rebuilding the Terminal of Brussels Airport after the 22/03/2016 terror attacks
Whatever they want to change to the departure hall, do it once everything is back to normal... Outside renovations can still be done when the inside is functional and it's not like the interior was outdated or anything...

Just in, according to De Morgen Brussels Airport plans to reopen the terminal building before the end of May. In June it should be running at full capacity again.
The third, and perhaps most interesting part, is that there are plans to build a new "terminal of the future" equipped with modern technology.

Brussels Airport has posted a few pictures about the ongoing repairs of the terminal at Brussels Airport.
Temporary walls are being placed to cover up the areas that were most harmed during the attacks, while other areas are planned to open in May as reported earlier. More can be found on the Brussels Airport Twitter account.

The press was allowed in the departures hall together with the parliamentary commission this afternoon.

Every day, more than 120 people are working hard on getting the departures hall and check-in zone at #brusselsairport ready for passengers asap.
Some shots from Raphaël Meulders (La Libre Belgique):
The place where Starbucks used to be, now void:

The place where the second bomb exploded will remain inaccessible for the public:

Thanks for sharing.
Looks like good progress has been made there indeed: one would think they are ready to reopen in part within the next few days.
Any target date known yet?

Target date known? Yes. Target date up for publication? No.Inquirer wrote: Looks like good progress has been made there indeed: one would think they are ready to reopen in part within the next few days.

Mainly because there is a huge factor of uncertainty, not so much related to the infrastructure itself (btw, they are still putting up the pre-check on the curb, airlines still have to move to their new ticket offices, etc., so it's not like everything is finished yet), but just like with the initial reopening and with the train station the authorities...
