They also mention their intention to serve Barcelona from Oostende.

Nice to have some action at these 2 regional airports, even though this is highly leisure driven of course, to the exception of the Berlin route which positively surprises me and can qualify as business route, albeit with a far too low schedule then.

Given the low frequencies, I'd say these flights are more of a 'problem' to the latter two than the first, as well as to Easy Jet of course on Berlin and Milan.
But let's be positive: a market can also grow from having more options and thus a bigger offer!
Although for that phenomenon, the capacity increase may be too small here.

If they're flying to TXL and LIN I'm willing to actually pay more and fly with them!! 1. living in the Antwerp area cuts the trip by 2 hours (back and forth from BRU) 2. LIN excludes all other airlines except for SN and AZ as all the rest fly to MXP or even further ..same goes for Berlin. Only SN flies to TXL. Very smart move.. I think that they will end up increasing frequencies.

They're using SXF and MXP.

I think I once read no new airlines are accepted in TXL in view of the pending (and much delayed) opening of the new airport over there; is that fiction or fact?
No idea if LIN is an option to a newcomer, but it seems like one of the places hard to gain access to as well.

This is not my cup of tea but I think Berlin is quite in vogue for citytrips. As is Barcelona.

BTW both cities are quite enjoyable, but I cannot say the same for Milano.

Could very well be the case indeed.
They must know better than anybody else which city trips sell well, although it seems like they will go to Schonefeld, which is not very so ideally situated for a city tripper to the German capital.

That's easily 40k extra pax through the airport...not bad if you know they had 137k in 2013

Some key points from the De Tijd article:

Non-scheduled flights/charters excluded, ANR had around 80,000 passengers on an annual base, with JAF this is expected to double to 160,000.

Egis Belgium hopes to announce 1 to 3 more new destinations this week. GVA and ZRH will not be part of these, "the operator didn't succeed in securing the financing". By mid-2015, ANR hopes to have connections with 10 to 12 destinations.

There are plans to expand the terminal and improve landside connectivity (such as improved public transport). Egis is working on a masterplan to expand the terminal capacity to 350,000 annual passengers within 15/20 years.

JAF will have 32 weekly flights from OST, not only 3 new weekly flights to BCN, but also additional flights to Alicante, Malaga, Palma, Rhodos and Tenerife.

Berlin, Milano, Barcelona are true "citytrip" destinations. Three flights per week, well distributed, is a good frequency.
Schönefeld is only 45 min away from Alexanderplatz by train, no problem. And they will be already on site when (or if) Brandenburg opens.
Barcelona is well known and appreciated.
Milano is a cultural center, and is also famous for shopping - il "Quadrilatero della Moda" via Montenapoleone and around is home to the best fashion leaders : Versace, Armani, Gucci, Prada, Dolce&Gabbana, and many others ...
Antwerp airport to be again on the map : quite a good thing !

I agree, the 3 cities are extremely popular city trip destinations. Provided the frequencies are reasonably timed..a friday pm and a sunday pm flight.. it should work, and they might even add frequencies shortly after they open the flights for bookings.. Very exciting times for ANR.

I was at the press conference of Jetairfly this morning. I can confirm it is SXF in Berlin and MXP in Milan, in addition to Barcelona BCN. All three destinations thrice a week. They are considered as "mixed" destinations (business and leisure). Illustrated report to follow...
