More than half of Lufthansa’s scheduled flights operated as normal despite strikes

Post by sn26567 »

More than half of Lufthansa’s scheduled flights operated as normal despite the strikes on Monday and Tuesday

Flight operations are expected to largely return to normal from Wednesday onwards

Despite the extensive strikes called by the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union, Lufthansa’s special flight timetable for Monday and Tuesday included around 1,450 of the 2,800 scheduled flights – more than 50 per cent. All long-haul flights from Germany will take off as scheduled this Monday. Lufthansa Cargo will even be able to operate 100 per cent of its scheduled flights. Germanwings, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti are not affected by the industrial action. Flight operations should largely return to normal when the strike comes to an end this Wednesday.

150,000 passengers are expected to have their travel plans disrupted by the cancellations. Earlier today, Lufthansa informed 56,000 customers by SMS and 30,000 customers by email about the changes to their flights. Yesterday evening, the Company published a special flight timetable for the entire strike period on www.LH.com. All passengers who have a flight scheduled during this period should check the status of their flight on www.LH.com ahead of time.

We are extremely sorry that we have to disappoint more than 150,000 of our customers today and tomorrow. At the same time, we are happy that we managed to operate half of our scheduled flights on the two strike days despite the call for strikes made by the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union”, said Karl Ulrich Garnadt, member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa German Airlines.

Lufthansa is convinced that sustainable solutions will only be found at the negotiation table. The two sides have got a lot closer over recent weeks. Lufthansa remains open to negotiation and calls on the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union to return to the negotiation table.

Hi,

I was supposed to fly from MRS to CPH via FRA yeasterday with LH.
Both flights were cancelled but I was able to rebook via MUC instead of FRA on LH cityline and SAS.
So in the end I even got a better/faster connection 8-) !

Regards,

Jeroen
