02/06/2014 LSG catering strike at Brussels Airport

Post by Av24.be »

Yesterday all employees of LSG catering stopped working, today 03/06/2014 the strike is still on-going.

Reasons:

- lack of organisation,
- high workload,
- lack of staff,
- wages too low.

Strange that nobody objects to the fact that there is only 1 caterer at EBBR... not too long ago the EU was having a fit at Latvia (http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-09-1443_en.htm)...
Would be interesting to know why, when Gate Gourmet was taken over by LSG, nobody objected to the sole position by the latter at EBBR... they have the full monopoly now...

If all (or even part of the) staff from Gate Gourmet, and their equipment was incorporated into the merger, why is it that they can not provide adequate quality? Why is it that they have a high workload, lack of staff, ....? Rumour control has it that at the end of their existance, Gate Gourmet had no customers anymore and lack of contracts / work forced them into the sale to LSG....(don't shoot me for this....)

What is it with EBBR? Staff from groundhandling, catering, cargo, fuelcompanies, .... are all not happy...is it so bad to work at the airport?...

Catering is an open activity, so no rules to the number of players. Catering transport however is an activity that is subject to the ground handling Royal Decree. So BRU has to organise a tender for a second license. This process has already started, so normally we should soon see a second catering transport company again (probably with also an own production facility again, as transport alone seems unlogical).

No, but they are not 9-to-5 jobs, which in Belgium is compensated with nightwork and weekendwork incentives. The unions in Belgium (and especially at EBBR it seems) are the real problem here. I don't know what they stir through their coffee in the morning, but they are not in touch with reality

For a fact, LSG is the worst service providor in Brussels. It's even worse than Swissport.

but unfortunately there is no other option ... Avia is'nt able to handle Brussels Airlines .. and there is no other Catering supplier anymore at Bru Airport... result into poor service from the Hub of Belgian airliners...

There are two Catering company's at Brussels Airport. LSG Sky Chefs Belgium and LSG Sky Chefs Brussels International (formerly GateGourmet). Services are provided from the same building with the same material and the same staff.

Before the merger with LSG, GateGourmet had two importand clients (Jetairfly - Thomas Cook) but also Qatar, Ethiopian, Cityjet (ANR), Saudi Cargo, Singapore Cargo and a few others.

Got this from Ryanair by e-mail :

Yes, I am due to fly with Ryanair tomorrow, but from Charleroi; is LSG in charge of the catering at CRL, too ?
IF IT AIN'T BOEING, I'M NOT GOING.

You better bring your own sandwiches to CRL, LSG provide the catering for all flights of Ryanair. Also in Charleroi Brussels South Airport.

Briefly in English:

Newrest-Servair becomes second caterer at Brussels Airport

Brussels Airport announced yesterday that it has selected a second caterer, the joint venture Newrest-Servair. The selection procedure was launched at the end of 2013, after Gate Gourmet was absorbed by LSG Sky Chefs Belgium on 31 October 2013. For legal reasons, it was necessary to nominate a second caterer.

Newrest-Servair will launch operations as soon as possible.

May I please insist that people posting in other languages than English should add a translation or at least a summary in English. Thanks!
