Libyan Airlines is to restart its European flights.
Tripoli, 3 March 2014:
Libyan Airlines is to restart its European flights, which are operated by Tunisian airline Nouvelair
The Libya’s Civil Aviation Authority (LYCAA) enforced the suspension after a UK-bound flight from Tripoli to Manchester lost radio contact when flying over French airspace on 21 February.
Afriqiyah Airways continue to wet-lease aircraft and flight crew to service their European routes due to ongoing restrictions on both airlines flying in EU airspace. Afriqiyah recently signed an agreement with an Irish aviation company that should enable it to fly unrestricted in Europe by May.

Re: Libyan Airlines is to restart its European flights.
Afriqiah and Lybian should be merged before the end of this year. The merger discussions have been ongoing for years and were stopped at the fall of Gaddafi. They have resumed now and are progressing well.
Initially Lybian Airlines was set up for domestic and regional flights, and Afriqiah Airways to link the rest of the world to Africa through Lybia.

What will be the name of the new merged company?
Even though 'Afriqiah' had more destinations (I think?), I'd opt for the name of 'Lybian Airlines'.

Seems Afriqiyah Airways has lost one A320 and one A330 in very recent ground combat at Tripoli Airport:

Most European airlines have cancelled flights to Tripoli at least until 31 July.
Let's hope that the different groups fighting for the control of the airport (and of the country...) will find a compromise that will allow normal life to resume as soon as possible.

Re: Libyan Airlines is to restart its European flights.
it's a shame state of the art Airbus A330 totally destroyed less then one year old!
Afriqiyah Airways Airbus A330-202 (the last A330 in fleet, 5A-ONP)
Bad week for aviation

And it is such a beautiful country with amazing cultural remains and superb scenery...... very sad indeed!

After the aircraft, it's the fuel stock now. Today, a second large fuel depot at the airport has been hit by a missile and is on fire now.
