Airbus is to offer a further range increase on the A220-300 towards mid-2021, with a 1-tonne hike in the MTOW, providing some 200 nm additional range.

Breeze Airways has expanded its growth plans with an additional order for 20 A220-300s, which brings the startup’s total order for the jet to 80.

Airbus has appointed a senior internal supply chain executive to run its Canadian operation, with responsibility for trimming losses on the A220 jetliner series. Benoit Schultz will take over on 01 September 2021 from Philippe Balducchi.

AirBaltic confirms both engines on an A220-300 shut down right after touching down in Copenhagen on 11 July 2021. An investigation is taking place.

Azimut to lease six A220s in 2022-24 in a deal with Air LeaseCorp., the first airline in Russia to fly the model.

Airbus will pitch its A220 to Croatia Airlines as part of the planned renewal of the airline’s fleet.

FACC and Airbus expand their partnership with the production of empennage components for A220.

Airbus is in talks with China’s aviation regulator about certifying its A220 plane that has received strong interest from domestic airlines.

Air Manas became the first A220 operator in CIS and Central Asia in Apri, debuting the aircraft in a new livery resembling that of Swiss.

Lessor AerCap has delivered the first of 14 new PW1500G powered A220-300 aircraft to Breeze Airways in the US. The 14-aircraft deal comprises the sale/leaseback of 11 A220s, the second of which is scheduled to deliver this month with the remaining deliveries continuing through 2022 and 2023, and three aircraft owned by Einn Volant Aircraft Leasing Holdings. All three aircraft will be managed by AerCap and are scheduled for delivery through 2022.

Qantas selects the A320NEO and A220 as the replacement for their 737-800 and 717 fleet.
It orders 20 A321XLR and 20 A220s, and has 94 options with flexibility on timing and plane type.
Deliveries would start in July 2023.

Air Sénégal has taken delivery of its first A220-300 today at GODB/DSS Dakar Diass airport.
This is the first of five taken on lease from Macquarie making SZN the fourth airline in Africa to operate the type. Reg is 6V-AOA (6V = Senegal)

Airbus and the Government of Quebec said they will jointly invest US$1.2 billion to expand and speed up the production of the A220 in Mirabel. Both parties also agreed to push back the date when Airbus can buy back Quebec’s stake in the joint venture by four years, to 2030.

Airbus will be able to buy out the 25% stake from the Quebec government in 2030. By then, Airbus will have accelerated its production rate to 14 aircraft per month by 2025 or 2026.

AirBaltic reports that as the A220-300 is now certified to operate up to 149 seats, the company’s fleet is undergoing a gradual change in cabin configuration, unblocking additional seats that couldn’t be used previously.

Air Vanuatu has decided to cancel its order for A220s and is looking at alternative options. The carrier has purchased two additional DHC6s and will deploy the aircraft on domestic routes in late 2022. Air Vanuatu also plans to purchase a second ATR by year-end, and maybe a second B737.

AirBaltic chief executive Martin Gauss calls on engine and aircraft manufacturers to find solutions to the supply-chain issues that continue to ground its A220s for prolonged maintenance periods.

Airbus is in talks with Delta Air Lines to expand the carrier’s existing order for A220s. The deal for a top-up order of around 12 aircraft could be signed at Farnborough Airshow next week.

airBaltic fleet now consists of 36 A220-300s with three more still planned to join in 2022.
