Not only Air France-KLM: Italy said it would hold exclusive negotiations with Delta Air Lines (US), Air France-KLM and Certares (US) to privatise ITA Airways.

MSC (without Lufthansa?) still remains willing to invest in ITA Airways, should the situation change in the coming months; however, the company is likely to invest in another airline.

Does Italy already have a new government? It usually takes ages to form one. Belgium is no exception in that respect.

Italy has extended to Oct. 31 the deadline for exclusive talks with a consortium led by U.S. private equity fund Certares over a majority stake in ITA Airways, two sources close to the matter said on Friday.

The talks were initially meant to expire on Sept. 30.

Certares, backed by Air France-KLM and Delta Air Lines, is willing to pay 350 million euros for a 50% stake plus one share of the state-controlled airline, the sources said.

Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary said he sees Italy’s relaunched ITA Airways as a business destined to keep losing market share and require continued government support.

We said already several times here that the ITA story is a soap opera. Here is the latest development: ITA Airways executive chairman Alfredo Altavilla sues seven other board members of the carrier due to being removed for lack of “just cause”.

Before to know why ITA struggles and previously Alitalia, you should know that the political system in Italy is not stable.

The average life expectancy of a governement in Italy is one year. So probbaly in one year far right won't be in power. ITA is the victim of this mess.

More state money for ITA Airways: the state-owned airline is close to a further government cash injection of US$400 million, as the newly elected government reviews the plans to sell the state-controlled carrier in the coming months. Poor Italian taxpayer!

ITA Airways is close to welcoming Antonino Turicchi as its new chairman, following the recent resignation (or rather ouster) of Alfredo Altavilla. It remains to be seen whether MSC and Lufthansa will formalise a new offer for the carrier.
