Boeing had to recently pause B737 MAX production for about 10 days due to supply chain snags, complicating the plane maker’s ability to satisfy airlines’ demand for new aircraft.

If I remember correctly, the final assembly line (or at least one of them) receives the fuselages of the 737s from one of the several Boeing sites in the US. They are transported on flat railcars. Could there be a cause of a supply chain snag there?

On another note, I have sometimes wondered whether that was a factor in the fact that the body width of the 737 was lower than that of the A320s family.

Southwest Airlines exercised seven B737-8 options for delivery in 2022; exercised two B737-7 options for delivery in 2023; accelerated and exercised seven 2023 B737-8 options for delivery in 2022; and shifted seven 2022 MAX firm orders into 2023, which are reflected as B737-7 firm orders in the updated order book. Additionally, in July 2022, the carrier converted 48 2023 B737-7 firm orders to B737-8 firm orders in 2023. Southwest plans to retire 19 B737-700s in 2H 2022, retiring a total of 29 B737-700s in 2022. The carrier now estimates 2022 deliveries to be 66 versus the previously expected 114, ending the year with 765 aircraft.

Boeing appears to have accepted that it will not be able to certify its B737 MAX 10 by the 2022-end deadline, but it remains possible that US lawmakers could give it more time, says Ryanair. The carrier is currently in talks about a possible large MAX 10 order.
