Antwerp Airport: longer runway?

Antwerp Airport: longer runway?
Hi,
I have question
End of this year they will start with the construction works for the tunneling of the R11/Krijgsbaan at Antwerp Airport to make it possible to make the runway longer as required by ICAO.
How much longer will the runway be? Will it just be a 'safety strip' or will it be possible for (smaller) passenger jets to use the airport?
Tried to Google this but didn't find any info on how many meters would be added?
Thanks

Re: Antwerp Airport longer runway?
As far as I know, the runway wil not be extended. The tunnel will be made for safety reasons. Correct me if I am wrong.
Re: Antwerp Airport longer runway?
I thought they were going to add a safety strip of 300 m

@ Sai,
In the past they always talked about a runway of 2000 m lenght. You can google that.

Re: Antwerp Airport longer runway?
Indeed I read sth about 2000m, but then I saw another website that stated it would never become 2000m because of the old fort standing in its way.
I was just wondering because last year I saw several Embraers 190 (BA Cityflyer) in LCY and wondered if it would be possible to fly from/to ANR with smaller jets (again)...

Re: Antwerp Airport longer runway?
At this moment the EBAW/ANR runway is 1510m / Usable lenghts : LDA rwy 11 due displaced threshold 1366m . For take off TORA/TODA/ASDA is 1510m.
For ICAO rules : airports should have a RESA ( runway end safety area ) of at least 150m. This means that in case of an overrun an aircraft will not meet any obstacle or obstruction or sudden change in ground level, at least 150m behind the published runway lenght. ( ICAO recommends 300m or more RESA, but the rule is 150m ) Antwerp airport has no RESA on the east side and the ground level changes when crossing the traffic road and the grass meadow is not at the same level. In worst scenario a plane can collide with a truck neglecting the red traffic lights. All this means that EBAW - ANR will publish from 21 april 2013 that the TORA will be 1360m. After finishing of the tunnel and ground leveling, the runway will be again usable over the full lenght.
The politic party GROEN ( 7% voters ) supported bij socialist party SPA are making opposition to add even one extra centimeter to the runway, as this could scare the 382 bats living in the Fort III 450m behind the runway.

Re: Antwerp Airport longer runway?
Thanks for the info dc-6b
So, If I understand you correctly, as I'm not a specialist
they are just going to add the so called RESA? of 150 m or more?
But then the runway will be 1510m because it can be used over the full length. Which is as long as the runway of LCY...so this will allow smaller commercial jets to use the airport...as long as the bats don't mind

Re: Antwerp Airport longer runway?
What does Bart De Wever think about the Antwerp airport ? He might be the next mayor ...dc-6b wrote: The politic party GROEN ( 7% voters ) supported bij socialist party SPA are making opposition to add even one extra centimeter to the runway, as this could scare the 382 bats living in the Fort III 450m behind the runway.

Bart de Wever and NVA are very positive for the expansion of Antwerp airport.airazurxtror wrote:

' We saw De Wever in an old-timer airplane – a boy’s dream come true apparently but also a way of promoting the Flemish government’s support for the controversial Deurne business airport, which leads an ailing existence. '

Re: Antwerp Airport: longer runway?
So,if full use can be made of the 1510m runway, what does this mean?
Would it allow e.g a fully loaded RJ100/RJ85/EMB190/EMB175/ATR72 to do a ANR-Barcelona ? or ANR-Milano? or ANR-Alicant/Malaga?

Please be careful and don't feed the troll!
Some people, who are doing bad in the polls, might be tempted to make aviation unfriendly promises in order to win votes!

Re: Antwerp Airport: longer runway?
Hi all,
Clearing the dust from this topic, as I still have a (technical) question. So at the end of runway 11 (or beginning 29) they will construct a strip of 150m in total, consisting of the actual RESA of 90m which has to start according to ICAO 60m from the end of the runway (right?). Now, what are the actual conditions for runway 29? I've been looking for some information but I can't find what I'm looking for. In my eyes it looks like if at the end of runway 29 there isn't a safety strip of 150m, but as I found out, in the past only a RESA of 60m was necessary. So is it right that for runway 29 there is only a RESA of 60m? And did that one also had to start 60m from the end of the runway (totalling 120m) or was that not obliged at the time they constructed it (so that there is only an area of 60m)?
