SN evening long haul flights ever possible?

Post by kookongsi »

At present SN operates a european network in a few waves troughout the whole day. The african flights are all arriving in the morning and departing early afternoon. These african flights are offcourse also filled with connecting european pax (besides NA and belgian pax). This means logically that european flights the rest of the day (evening) flying without these AFI-pax. Now, I don't know the numbers but doesn't this create a difference in loadfactors morning-evening?
Even with the announced new strategy (more focus longhaul) it seems every new flight will be started to connect with the present AFI-network.
My question: isn't it possible to set up an evening LH-wave (to AFI or wherever) to fill the SH-planes in the evening? Basically, to copy the same strategy at another time.
I know, the easy destinations are already gone, and there will be at first no feed outside EU, but maybe this can also attract other flights.
I know also this will cost lots of money, but one can dream of more bigger planes at other moments than the mornings. :)
I'd love to read your thoughts an criticism.

Greetz.

I don't see it happening now, however there used to be many evening flights to Africa mainly in the time of Sabena. I still remember the noisy DC-10's overflying our family home around 10:30p some 20 years ago.

It's always a good option to have a late departure to Africa and arrive in the morning there. But it seems it's also not good to arrive too early when it's still dark, or to have people need to show up early at the airport for the flight back out of safety concerns at some destinations.

It's also a problem for long haul connections (North America, Middle East, Asia) which usually tend to take place in the first part of the day or around noon.
