Brussels Airport: New train ticket hall open to public

Post by sn26567 »

Since 1 July the new ticket hall of the Brussels Airport train station is open to the public. The new hall provides eight ticket counters. Its design is minimalist and elegant, with lots of grey and accents of fluorescent red.

The new ticket hall is about five times the size of the old hall, which is currently being stripped to be integrated in the whole. To obtain this huge open space, two heavy support columns of the fly-over above the travel centre had to be removed and replaced by a supporting structure on level 0.

The renovated travel centre is part of the so-called Diabolo project, which aims to improve railway access to the airport from the north of the country. The works are scheduled to be ready by February 2012. In June of next year, the new railway link and the tunnel under the runway will be put into service. The renovation of the airport’s railway station was conceived to allow for the future extension from three to five tracks.
