UA-CO 777 downgraded service BRU-IAD/EWR

Post by shogan1977 »

While I am sure many are already all too aware of the fact that UA flies old configuration (old biz/1st) 777s from BRU to IAD... I have just learnt to my dismay that under the new UNITED the BRU-EWR route, currently served by a CO 777 (with full-flat 180 degree seats), will be served from the autumn by old version UA 777s, with the old biz class seats!!!!! :?

Is there something about BRU biz passengers that UNITED wants to punish us?

On a slightly separate point connection times via FRA from BRU to US bound UA or CO flights are terrible - removing that as an alternative way to access full-flat seats! I just don't understand...

Actually... The route is being UPGRADED not downgraded ;)

The reason why UA takes over the EWR route from CO is that UA sees BRU as a premium market (yes that's right, BRU is a premium market for UA on the IAD/ORD and EWR routes) and that they want to deploy year round an airplane with a dedicated first class section besides a regular business class. (BRU has a F demand and CO planes don't have F on board. The reason that BRU is considered a premium market is that UA has quite some contracts (governmental and private) and thus is certain of F and C being sold.

Currently UA is indeed deploying the "old" 777 configs on BRU and loads of other TATL routes, however when UA's 777's are being reconfigurated in the new layout all the routes will have lie flat seats in C.

But in the mean time TPAC routes are getting priority to get the newly reconfigurated planes with markets like LHR getting occasionaly a newly configurated plane to "test".

Just a bit patience and it will all work out ;)

Actually I do sleep much better in UA's old recliners in C then in lie flat seats like CO has on the plane. But that's probably a personal taste ;)

CO060 will become UA960
CO061 will become UA961

year round operated by a 772 instead of occasionally like CO did (due lack of planes)

I take your point re UA biz case for selling 1st class seats to government employees - however at max. 2 conversions per month (see link below), we are at least 12, if not 24 months away from having new config 777s on the BRUs route. While you might enjoy the old lie-flat seats where one slides at an angle or enjoys the same pre-AVOD crummy IFE system offered in the 90s on non-US modern airlines. For me I would prefer a UA 767 or a CO 777... I guess I will have to connect via FRA or LHR for a decent nights sleep
