"Major announcement" by Star Alliance
Star Alliance will make a "major announcement" in 24 hours, according to its Facebook page.
Curious to know what it will be...

Probably another airline to join the alliance, or a formal invitation (Jet Airways?sn26567 wrote:Star Alliance will make "major announcement" in 24 hours, according to its Facebook page.

Re: "Major announcement" by Star Alliance
Let's hope for Jet although I believe we may not expect any news before the 31st of July.
I suppose that what is mentioned in the below article cannot be considered neither as "major announcement"

Many new members would be possible: EVA, AI, Jet, Shenzen, Virgin , Etihad? (I mean one of those)
And is a new airline a "major announcement"? Don't think so. Or it must be something spectacular.

Re: "Major announcement" by Star Alliance
My suspicion is that the announcement will be that AI have scraped in before the deadline, although I am sure that they will phrase it more tactfully than that.
Re: "Major announcement" by Star Alliance
AI managed to get it things in order and the Indian government gave the OK for Jet to join *A...
At least that's my best guess...

and, by a completely unrelated coincidence, about 30 seconds later the Indian authorities will announce that LH can fly the A380 to India.Bralo20 wrote:AI managed to get it things in order and the Indian government gave the OK for Jet to join *A...

The "major" announcement isn't something "major" at all...
It's just about Shenzhen Airlines joining Star... Not much to mention...

Re: "Major announcement" by Star Alliance
Star Alliance has not yet released the news on its Facebook page, but basically they are telling that Air China holds 51% of the Stock of Shenzhen Air and Lufthansa + Air China + Shenzhen are the owners of Jade Air (Cargo) . It also mentions that Shenzhen is flying into Taiwan and employs Taiwanese staff.
Shenzhen is the 4th largest airline in China. Thus, with Air China and Shenzhen, Star Alliance becomes the largest alliance on the Chinese market. Take that, Skyteam!

Here is the official announcement:

Were delighted to announce the formal acceptance of Shenzhen Airlines' application to be a future Star Alliance carrier. Closely tied to existing member Air China, and based in Southern China, Shenzhen Airlines will give the network a strong position in one of the worlds fastest growing aviation markets. With 64 destinations, including five no other carrier serves, and 427 flights a day, this will open up many opportunities for anyone who does business in China or wants to explore this fascinating country. The integration process is now underway, with a view to completion by the end of 2012.

If that is the official announcement I have two questions:sn26567 wrote:Here is the official announcement:

1/ Where is the link?
2/ Why is there a 'typo' in it? I find it very hard to believe that *A would release an announcement without proofreading it first.
