Pretty hard to compare with Asians Airports.

Many of them are "brand news". An airport built in 1960s has not the same design that an airport built in 90s, in 2000s or in 2010s**, which is young for an airport.

** Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok, Seoul Icheon, Dubai Al Maktoum, Doha Hamad Airport, Osaka Kansai, Bejing Daxing, Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to name few (and i probably forgot many others)

In 1960s, the passenger trafic was not the same. Widebody aircraft such as B747, A330 or B777 were not in the sky. Securtiy issues were not the same. Many in Airport in North America or in Europe were not surrounded by the city. It's the case now and it's more harder to extend.

Residents living around airports or Green parties are noiser in North America and Europe than in Asia. It can be an impact for the development of an airport of the opening of a new airport (eg : Notre Dames des Landes Airport in France, the 3rd runway at London Heathrow,....)

Asia recorded a big economic growth since 1980s which has lead to a big growth in aviation. So it was important to built bigger airports with the lastest security and immigration restrictions in mind.

They are more open minded about the use of new technology. You can see robots & many technological innovations used in many airports in Asia. In Europe it means jobs destroyed or Data Privacy Issues. They have an another approach of the customer service.

Many big Asians Cities served by one airport have a new airport in project (Hanoi, Manilla, Jakarta,...)

Around 300 new airports coming up globally, 57% in Asia-Pacific

One certainly could agree that the drop-off towards the airport can improve drastically. It’s dirty, boring, you can find homeless people, at the door you will smokers in your way and you need an oxygen system to survive the busses that are idling during pause.

Once inside, most of the airport stands up quite well against most other European airports. I wish the arrival level in Pier B had much better lighting, whether natural or not.

Outside is a different story. Whichever level you look at could see some serious improvements. Without any doubt, the car rental parking garage is the worse though. I've returned cars during the construction in IAH and rush hour at LAX and CDG (you have to be there...), and BRU's car rental experience is still the pit of hell by comparison.

Most Asian airports are designed to be a showpiece of their respective country. They are built to impress, even or especially at a significant premium on construction costs. European and North American airports simply do not share the same design philosophy.

For sure the current drop off, remote taxi when you arrive, bus station, car rental is not like it should be.

Good that at least the whole car rental will move to a whole new place. This will free up extra capacity for pax. The same for employees who can park in the near future in that new parking tower. This will even free up more space for pax.

But believe me, it will change drastically as from the moment they will start to build the new hotel and extension of the terminal. It will have a whole new square. The first time I saw the render I was even not recognizing it.

Let's also not forget that it was a political decision to not have a drop off zone anymore in front of the airport but a remote stand. This is still hard to accept after many years. The current front is really nice and modern but almost nobody sees it.

I have no idea why the renders are not published yet as it was shown already a year ago. But I believe it will be some day. Let's stay positive

When Brussels implements its expansion plans, is there a chance that Rynair will return to the low-cost terminal?

There is no low-cost terminal at Brussels Airport. Only walk-in gates at the minus one level of the airport which can be used by any airline, SN/FR/etc...

That plan is not existing anymore. Only the full cargo part remained of the Vision 2040 and is underway.

Now there is Shift 2027.

But Pier C as a plan is not available anymore

Is still existing but no further news as long haul is not fully back at BRU and the current pier B has still a lot of capacity.

But, as from 2027 a closer look at pier A West can be. Around that time the capacity of the full airport will be reached, 2027-2028. As the bureaucracy is slow in Belgium it would be good to request on time.

But more urgent is to get the renewal of the current permit

Just this week Schiphol announced a new bus station, and Eindhoven a nice terminal expansion project.

The new bus station at Schiphol was already much earlier announced. Aviation24 was weeks behind it with an article.
