JANUARY

 CARGO

In January, Brucargo and Brussels Airport handled 36.591 ton of cargo or an increase with +1,5% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Egyptair cargo however cancelled during this month all its cargo ops to BRU and also mainly to OST and this due to the political unrest in Egypt.
Royal Jordanian Cargo cancelled also during certain days some cargo flights even as Saudi Arabian.

 MOVEMENTS

During January there were 17.358 movements at the airport or an increase with +4,1% when we compare this with the same month of last year.
Note: there was a lot more diplomatic traffic (General aviation).

The problems in Tunesia and Egypt are clear in this numbers. Also note that the holiday was in March this year and not in February like in 2010. So a much lower amount of pax who go on holliday in February combined with Egytp and Tunesia.... Not really suprising numbers.
You also see that the transfer pax increased again wich shows that SN/Star must have performed quite well in February wich again shows that the limited pax increase is the result of the much lower amount of holliday pax (maybe some other things I forgot about February?).

BTW, to give the SN results of February 2011:
- 357 821 pax + 9.5%
- LF 56.1% -0.4%
- pax in Europe +8.7%
- pax to Africa +15.6%
- transfer +20%

... or preferably: viewtopic.php?p=246922#p246922

It means that Brussels Airlines did much better than Brussels Airport in February.

FEBRUARY

 PAX

In February, Brussels Airport welcomed 1.092.000 pax or an increase with +1,3% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Intra-EU was doing well with +20.000 pax due to a higher loadfactor on some Brussels Airlines destinations and an increased capacity.
LCC was doing, and this for years already, very well with an extra new destination since 7 February. Liverpool -> Easyjet.

Extra-EU was again hit due to political unrest in North-Africa. Flights to Tunesia (was mainly solved in February), Egypt and Ivory Coast.

 Intra-EU: 700.000: +2,8%
 Extra-EU: 393.000: -1,3%
 T&T: 89.000: +23,6%

 CARGO

Brucargo and Brussels Airport handled 37.400 ton of cargo in February or an increase with +6,2% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Saudi Arabian announced that the want to fly again 21 times a week to/from Brussels. This is again like years ago and a very good thing.

 MOVEMENTS

In February there were 17.077 movements on the airport or an increase with +6,2% when we compare this with the same month of last year.
General Aviation received a lot more movements during February.

MARCH

 PAX

In March, Brussels Airport welcomed 1.406.000 pax or an increase with +9,9% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Some circumstances are responsible for this. The Spring break was shifted from February to March.
Intra-EU and Low Cost showing very strong growth, they present dubble digit figures. Extra-EU and charters to Extra-EUis also showing an increase although this is less due to the problems in Egypt, Tunesia, Libya and Ivory Cost.

 Intra-EU: 891.000 pax: +10,2%
 Extra-EU: 515.000 pax: +9,4%
 T&T: 103.000 pax: +12,6%

During March, mostly at the beginning of the new IATA-season some carriers started up new services to BRU while other increased their services. One airline, Olympic Airlines, ceased ops to BRU.

-> Royal Jordanian: +1 flight a week to Amman
-> Air Nostrum: 2 new flights ex-BRU to San Sebastian
-> Aer Lingus: increased their number of flights to 18 a week to Dublin
-> Estonian Air: +2 flights a week with their CRJ900
-> Skyways Express: a new carrier and a new destination, Jöngköping with their Embraer 145
-> Belle Air: new LCC at BRU with 3 flights a week to Tirana with their A319

 MOVEMENTS

In March there were 19.999 movements at the airport or an increase with +3,9% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

PS: the cargo figures are also available but will follow later.

Hi, Like I earlier said in my previous post, cargo figures were already available but due to circumstances I posted them later then planned.

MARCH

 CARGO

In March, Brucargo and Brussels Airport handled 43.742 ton of cargo or a decrease with -12,2% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Surprised? Not really. Remember the multiple charters of Korean Air Cargo last year. They boosted the monthly figures of March last year.

Cargo via the integrator is again going up since the last couple of months and cargo on pax is still growing with double digit figures.

Compared with March 2009 numbers this is an increase of 10%. Not bad.

BTW Atlantis is your 2010 number correct? I noticed that in the 2010 thread you mention an 18.4% increase but he tonnage was 49.800. Shouldn't the increase for 2010 be 25%?

Hi LJ,

I have checked this.

Cargo figure for March 09 was 42.107 ton
cargo figure for March 10 was 49.800 ton
cargo figure for March 11 was 43.742 ron

In fact the increase between '10 and '09 was not 18% but 15%
and we have a decrease between '11 and '10 of 12,16%

Correct me if I have missed something and I will check this.

Regards

Atlantis,I was looking at the 2009 thread, but now see that these numbers were incorrect for the first few months of 2009 (understatement of 3,000 tons a month).

There were indeed some mistakes, admitted by Brussels Airport by that time.

APRIL

 PAX

Brussels Airport welcomed 1.607.000 pax or an increase with +37,3% when we compare this with the same month of last year. We all know that a big part of Europe had to cope with the volcanic ash cloud last year.
A normal increase would be +- 3%.

All segments were doing well although holiday charters has still to cope with difficulties in the Mediteranian.

 Intra-EU: 987.000 pax: +41,1%
 Extra-EU: 620.000 pax: +31,6%
 T&T: 116.000 pax: +71,8%

 CARGO

In April, Brucargo and Brussels Airport handled 38.327 ton of cargo or an increase with +8,4%. Again the ash cloud is part in it but also the huge charter ops of Korean Air Cargo during March and April.

Iberia announced in meantime to start up 3 cargo flights between BRU and MAD with a B737F. They are going to start with it in June.

Korean Air Cargo add a fourth weekly cargo flight to BRU. They are going to increase it further to 9 with the beginning of the winter season.

Royal Jordanian Cargo announced to move their hub from Brussels to Maastricht. This means a lost of 4 to 5 cargo flights a week.

 MOVEMENTS

In April there were 19.448 movements on the airport or an increase with +23,7% when we compare this with the same month of last year. Again, ash cloud.

MAY

 PAX

Brussels Airport received in May 1.705.000 pax or an increase with +8.4% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Every segment, Intra-EU, Extra-EU and LC are doing very well although one specific segment has to cope with unforeseen circumstances. Extra-EU has to cope with a lot of cancellations of flights to North-Africa.

During May, Blue Air started a new route ex-BRU, Bacau, and this on 30.05. The route will be flown twice a week.

 Intra-EU: 1.112.000 pax: +11,9%
 Extra-EU: 593.000 pax: +2,3%
 T&T: 126.000 pax: +42%

N.B.: interesting to know is where we can place this figures since year 2000. Then we can see that May 2011 holds position 4. Only May 2000, 2001 and 2008 saw more monthly pax.

 CARGO

Brucargo and Brussels Airport handled 40.900 ton of cargo or a decrease with -1,8% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Reason for this was the huge number of cancellations of Singapore Airlines Cargo and Eva Air Cargo. Also Cathay Pacific payload was decreasing.
Korean Air Cargo added one cargo flight a week. They are now flying 4 times a week to BRU.
Saudi Arabian Cargo is also back on track.

 MOVEMENTS

During May there were 21.560 movements on the airport or an increase with +6,8% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

Sorry I forgot to put the June figures online

JUNE

 PAX

In June, Brussels Airport received 1.727.511 pax or an increase with +8,7% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

The Intra-EU did again a good job with an increase of capacity by home carrier Brussels Airlines. Also other Star Alliance carriers brings more pax to BRU.

Also Extra-EU traffic was growing due to the increased capacity and the new services of Qatar since February of this year. Growth is still less to the political problems in North-Africa.

 Intra-EU: 1.104.000 pax: +10,2%
 Extra-EU: 623.000 pax: +6,1%
 T&T: 143.000 pax: +30,6%

In June Air Canada increased their capacity by using an A330 iso a B767, Ethiopian Airlines increased with one flight a week, Egyptair is flying daily, Jetairfly is flying two new routes: Pristina and Tirana and this 2x a week, Royal Jordanian increased with one flight a week, Czech Airlines started a new flight to Bratislava.

 CARGO

Brucargo and Brussels Airport handled in June less then 38.000 ton of cargo or a decrease with -2,3% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

This is totally on the conto of full freight due to less cargo between China and Asia to/from Europe. This is a worldwide problem. Cathay Pacific had a worldwide decrease of -15%. Singapore Airlines Cargo is writing red figures for its cargo activities.
Integrator and cargo on pax was again doing very well.

 MOVEMENTS

In June there were 20.404 movements on the airport or a decrease with -1,4% when we compare this with the same month of last year.

2 033 101 passengers in July, that's the highest number since 2001. A 9.3% increase compared to July 2010. In the first seven months of this year the total amount of pax increased with 11.5% to 10.7 million.
The growth is achieved in all sectors (EU, non-EU, holiday pax,...) and especially transfer/transit again with an increase of 29.8%.
