Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
Jet Airways, India’s largest private airline, is looking to expand its network in several European cities besides also launching a non-stop service to New York.
Jet wants to join Alitalia’s network within Italy and also for onward connections to other European cities. At present, Italy does not allow any Indian airline to enter into code share with an Italian airline for domestic routes within Italy.
When the Air Services Agreement is renewed, Jet also wants to launch a daily service to Rome from New Delhi and then use Italy as a base for onward connections to Europe and North America.
At present, it uses Brussels as a hub and as a gateway to Europe and North America.
Apart from Italy, Jet has also been permitted to launch a daily service from New Delhi to Amsterdam from this year’s winter schedule.
Meanwhile, the airline’s proposal to begin daily services to Paris has not been cleared as it does not have the required aircraft to operate in this sector.

They will regret it.
Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
OK, so that might be the direction for Jet than. I agree, they will regret it. But that is up to them. It may however create opportunities for SN as well. The LH group is - as far as I know - the biggest foreign airline group on the Indian market. LH itself, LX and OS all have a number of operations between Europe and India. So if LH agrees that the link India-Brussels is important and interesting enough, well, lets see what is going to happen

and it will create a better opportunity for SN to start the flights to NY as two flights less per day (JFK and EWR)euroflyer wrote:OK, so that might be the direction for Jet than. Hasn't AI doing something à la 9W somewhere in Europe as well? This setup could probably easily be moved to BRU as part of a Star Alliance plan. It sure looks like the alliances have all courted their Indian targets. It will indeed enable some nice opportunities for SN, hopefully a fully owned subsidiary of LH Group in the not too distant future.

Hi,
Goodbye to Jet !
Welcome Singapore-Thai ??
or am I to optimistic...??
Maybe this can be followed for more Emirates,Quatars and Ethihads..
just time for react quick before these slots will be filled by airliners above and byebye opportunities..
CX-B
- Maybe spotters will see less A330-B777's but more B747's

Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
Well, IMHO You can't blame 9W for moving out of BRU if this is indeed the case... You should blame the indian government who makes it unable for 9W to join Star before AI has joined the alliance and it seems that 9W is just tired of waiting... 9W has said multiple times that they really want to join Star but the Indian government doesn't allow it before AI has joined... AI is practically a mess compared to 9W, they are running late deadline after deadline and I'm pretty confident that they won't make the newest deadline either, otherwise 9W would have waited just a couple of months more... So yes, it seems that Sky and 9W found eachother afterall... I'm not sure that 9W is thrilled by it but they just don't have another choice...
It will be sad to loose a good carrier like 9W but in the end I don't think there were other possibilities...

Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
there goes the best TATL product out of belgium.
Now we will need to content ourselves with US carriers or Bru Air.

Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
It will be sad to loose Jet in BRU, we can't do anything about it.
But on the other side it could be a chance for SN and maybe other Asian airlines. If Jet pulls back from BRU after SN is taken over by LH, SN will have much more chances to get more long haul aircraft faster. So they could pick up the JFK flights while CO/UA can increase frequency on EWR (for exemple UA morning and noon/afternoon and SN evening) AND they could pick in on the Toronto market. If SN is able to start it before Air Canada will decouple Montreal and Toronto I think they could make it work, but if they don't do it fast enough AC will do it (I think there is even a market for AC to operate both toronto and Montreal non-stop while 9W is also on the toronto route, but SN will probably not start Toronto when AC is already on that route. SN already 'lost' Montreal, so if 9W leaves I hope SN will go for Toronto).
On the side of Asia. If 9W leaves Etihad and Qatar will probably increase their operations to BRU even more (maybe also EK altough I hope they stay away), but this will have an even more negative effect on other Asian carriers (Singapore, Thai,...) wich may start operations to BRU but with to much QR, EY (and maybe EK) competition they will probably not come.

Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
would it make more sense for 9W (assumed they join star alliance) to add more star alliance hubs as EU destinations? to me it doesn't since LH and LX already provide connection between those hubs and india.
why open a new route that is already served by a future alliance member when you have other options...

Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
AI had a scissor hub at FRA, but dropped it since it didn't perform well enough. You really want that crappy lame duck AI to set up a hub at BRU?BrightCedars wrote:Hasn't AI doing something à la 9W somewhere in Europe as well? I am afraid you are way to optimistic... Why would TG all of a sudden change their mind regarding BRU because 9W drops the airport? EY (and maybe QR) have more traffic on BRU-BKK then 9W. 9W's local BRU market never was huge.cathay belgium wrote:Hi,

How big is the local market BRU-NYC or Toronto? Keep in mind that 9W mainly shifted transfer pax India-North-America through BRU and not so much local traffic. Canadian local traffic is well covered by AC and with three airlines covering NYC I only see a chance for SN to open JFK.Mr_Boeing wrote:But on the other side it could be a chance for SN and maybe other Asian airlines. 9W leaving BRU is a sad decision for the airport. But 9W is not to blame...
Don't expect LH all of a sudden allow SN to open up (a) route(s) to India. LH probably favors transfering SN pax on their own long haul flights or maybe on those who already serve India from their hubs.
Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
I think we agree that SN can open a BRU-JFK flight (about EWR I only mentionned UA/CO) and with 9W leaving this market it could be even easier (even with 9W having not so many local pax), SN can use it for their AFI network and an evening flight could feed the possible need of (more) evening flight(s) from Europe to NYC.Conti764 wrote:How big is the local market BRU-NYC or Toronto? And we also agree on the fact that LH will not let SN open a route to India as LH has a very dominant position on this market and they want to keep it.
But now about Canada. This market has a lot of room to grow, AC could easily delink Montreal and Toronto (even with 9W on the market). But if 9W leaves BRU and SN can react fast (only with the help of LH I suppose...) they can take up the Toronto route. I'm quite sure there is a market for it: locall traffic and the connecting pax to Africa (and Europe?) seems enough to justify such a flight operated by SN.
Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
or maybe switch Toronto to AC and let SN fly to Montreal. Isn't Montreal a more interesting market for SN as french speaking and for the AFI flights?MR_Boeing wrote:But now about Canada. Re: Jet Airways wants to extend cooperation with Alitalia
Montreal would be more interesting for SN indeed, but I doubt AC wants to give up this route. Montreal is very succesfull for AC. I think SN lost his chance on the Montreal route. But they can try to take the Toronto market, I think it is big enough, especially if 9W leaves BRU.diminbru wrote: or maybe switch Toronto to AC and let SN fly to Montreal. LH is apparently considering starting a DUS-DEL flight and feed it with EU pax, thus freeing capacity on their daily FRA/MUC flight for North American pax... for this they'd base another A330 at DUS as from 2012.
