see 3 Star alliance members in the list and one who will become a new member in the

As far as I see, only 2 of the top 10 are Star Alliance members (Egyptair and Thai). China Airlines isn't a member, Air China is though.

Happy landings,

Chris

Indeed, only 2 present Star members (Thai & Egyptair) and one future Star member (Avianca). However, 1 present Scareteam member (Kenya Aw) and 2 future ones (China Airlines & Garuda, who was on the EU black list until recently) are on the list as well.

You are right, I was reading too quick. But we then still have Avianca who will join
Star Alliance pretty soon.

Could you kindly make that "Top 10 dangerous airlines" please? As it is, I was sure this would be one more thread of whining about those unsafe Tupolevs and Ilyushins... TIA!

Article is taken over from http://www.askmen.com/top_10/travel/top ... nes_1.html

But that doesn't matter, crap anyway. Sensational journalism.

They have also a Top 10: Hot Stewardess Airlines. What a joke.

There is Avianca and Avianca....

Here in Brazil, Avianca is doing fine, one of the best airlines in the country.

When you read the whole article you'll see that for many of these airlines there are important remarks. For many of these 10 airlines the reason for there amount of crashes are there bad history. Thai and Avianca for exemple had several crashes in the past, but now they fly modern, well maintenanced aircraft and they have a good safety record. Philippine Airlines and again Avianca are exemples of airlines wich had several teroristic attacks or/and hijackings in the past. Cubana, last fatal crash: 1999... (altough they can't resist to refer to the Russian equipment of Cubana, while crashes of Russian aircraft are also mostly 'just' because of bad maintenance, human error...)

So not really valuable article as you don't get a reall idea about the current "dangerous" airlines. Read the EU black list and you will get even a much better idea of dangerous airlines...

The 2 big crashes of Thai were with modern and well maintained airplanes.
The crash at Nepal with a well maintained 4 year old A310 was caused by a combination of language problems and stubborness.
The crash at Surat Thani with a well maintained 12 year old A310 was even more clearly caused by the stubborness of the captain who did a third landing attempt in severly bad weather.
Talking about statistics: what about Lauda Air? Their sole crash killed about as many people as with the 2 crashes of Thai airways that had so many more airplanes.

Yes ok, you are correct. But my point is that many things changed at these airlines since their last big crashes (the two Thai A310 crashes where in the 90's?). Crew training is improved very much for exemple.

So my point is that this article just doesn't give a good idea of the real dangerous airlines currently. ;)

I believe your word for it that crew training at TG has improved. I know a TG flight instructor who left the job btw. ( had something to do with the simulators. He was a simulator instructor but got angry that he had to get a new certification - as an instructor. He earns now much more with a fruit plantation )

I do get your point.
And I do believe that pilots, even of crappy arlines, would refuse to fly a badly maintained aircraft that could endanger their own life.

Oh yes, almost forgot it: where is Biman in that list

I actually miss Air France in this list, seeing how they had 3 major crashes in the last 10 years (of which 1 miraculously had no fatalities).
