GERMAN railway operator Deutsche Bahn has confirmed it will test its high-speed ICE-3 train in the Channel Tunnel on 19 October. If successful this could lead to direct services to Frankfurt and other German cities opening up the whole undersea enterprise to real competition.
What Eurotunnel is doing is considering allowing longer trains to use its facility than at present, which would also allow the French state-owned rival SNCF and its Belgian counterpart SNCB on to the High Speed One tracks. Deutsche Bahn is also in the process of acquiring British bus and rail operator Arriva.

Re: Competition for airlines: Deutsche Bahn HST for London?
What a pity there was no Belgian-operated service under the Channel last Christmas, we might have been able to have our holiday then. The current operators are incompetent and their trains are badly-designed, they must be or they wouldn't have broken down on mass last December.
