Lufthansa Group to order 40 Airbus, not for BruAir
Lufthansa’s Supervisory Board has approved the acquisition of 40 Airbus aircraft worth approximately US$4.3 billion. These aircraft are destined for Lufthansa, plus two of the Group’s subsidiary airlines: SWISS and Germanwings. The orders comprise: 20 A320 Family aircraft and three A330-300s for Lufthansa; four A320 Family aircraft and five A330-300s for SWISS; and eight A319s for Germanwings. With this order, the Lufthansa Group, Airbus’s biggest airline customer, will have acquired a combined total of 410 Airbus aircraft.
So 40 new aircraft for Lufthansa, SWISS and Germanwings but nothing for Brussels Airlines!!

Re: Lufthansa Group to order 40 Airbus, not for BruAir
Is pretty logical as SN is not yet a full daughter.Boeing767copilot wrote:

Maybe we'll see another LH order when they a have 100% of SN. I could see them replacing the "old" leased A319's, A333's...
Re: Lufthansa Group to order 40 Airbus, not for BruAir

Re: Lufthansa Group to order 40 Airbus, not for BruAir
Maybe no new aircraft for SN but isn't there a big chance LH will phase out some A330's and that those could come to BRU?

Will LH or SN itself announce their own fleet renewal?
Re: Lufthansa Group to order 40 Airbus, not for BruAir
Well, as already has been said. As long as SN is no full LH daughter it is not up to the LH board or supervisory board to decide about SN investments. SN has to decide this on its own (but of course get agreement from its main shareholders for this in the SN supervisory board). I cannot imagine that any such decision about a major investment will be taken as long as LH does not own 100%. Simple reason: SN does not have the money to do a major investment on its own. LH is not interested to give big money to a company they do not have full control about and the 'old' shareholders, who still have the majority of SN are not interested anymore to invest big money in a company either, which they plan to sell soon completely. So I guess probably SN will have to wait ...

Official press release (sorry for late posting):
Lufthansa Supervisory Board approves Group’s order for 48 new aircraft
Replacement and additional purchases contribute to the further modernization of the Group’s fleets and offer companies and staff perspectives
The Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG approved the order of 48 new aircraft for the Group at its meeting today. Of these new aircraft, eight Airbus A330-300, equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent700 engines, will be deployed on long-haul routes and the remaining 40 aircraft will be deployed in continental traffic. The planned order includes three Airbus A330-300 and twenty Airbus of the A320-family for Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, as well as eight new Embraer 195 aircraft for Lufthansa Regional. In addition, the order includes five Airbus A330-300, two Airbus A321 and two Airbus A320 for SWISS, as well as eight new Airbus A319 for Germanwings. The new, highly modern and fuel efficient aircraft will be delivered to the Group successively from 2012. The order has a list value of approximately 3.5 billion euros.
“Investments in new aircraft strengthen the competitiveness of the airlines in the Group, and a modern fleet increases fuel efficiency and reduces operating costs, noise pollution and CO2 emissions. That equally benefits our customers, shareholders and staff, as well as the environment. This order will allow our airlines to make targeted use of the growth opportunities that are resulting from the growing demand, and at the same time, it will allow us to preserve the necessary freedoms to always react to fluctuations in demand and changes in the market with the necessary flexibility,” commented Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber, speaking on the decision. The financing of the orders shall occur using the Group’s liquid assets or external financing.
