Spotting places at Paris CDG
Hi all,
When I did my communion, I got as a gift from my granddad:
A spotting day at CDG, which will be on this July 29th
But I have never been there before, so I don't know where the good/best places are.
Hope you guys can help me,
Karel
P.S. We will arrive with the TGV at the terminal, so we can only move by foot.

Re: Spotting places at Paris CDG
I can't be sure, dear namesake, but something tells me this day might be disappointing. I have never been to CDG, and spotting airliners is not my main interest in the broad field of hobby aviation, but I do seem to remember that spotters at the outside wire fence were chased off by security if they were lucky, and actively fined or punished otherwise. Spotting from inside the terminal might work up to a certain degree, if you can manage photography through the windows. Then again, I understand terminals at CDG are several, and not easy to commute between.
Whatever the outcome, do keep us posted, and don't forget to show gratitude to your granddad. If you are disappointed, make sure not to bother him!

You need a written permission from the préfecture of Saint-Denis to take pictures at CDG. See http://www.kerozen.org/Airports/Cdg/spot_cdg.htm
Due to a new prefectoral decree, taking pictures of anything from the public area to the restricted one is strictly forbidden.
The risk is a fee of 450 euros.

If you can afford a hotel room (this is a private place, thus not subject to restrictions), the Hilton CDG Airport is located between the 4 runways close to the main terminal complex. One taxiway connecting both sides runs by the hotel, directly where the Air France Concorde is on display.

Re: Spotting places at Paris CDG
Will you be taking photos at CDG or just spotting? I am just a spotter so I go to 'The Mound' and have never experienced any police / security problems there.
As people say photography seems little more difficult, but the permit is not difficult to get. I will have to look for you as to where you have to apply, of course there are many photographers on here so hopefully one of you could give some assistance.

Ems

This I found online:Emirates wrote: I will have to look for you as to where you have to apply, of course there are many photographers on here so hopefully one of you could give some assistance.
You can obtain a permit by sending an email too courrier@seine-saint-denis.pref.gouv.fr also cc in xavier.huby@seine-saint-denis.pref.gouv.fr Mark it for the attention of Le Commandant Xavier Huby. You will need to scan and attach a copy of the back page of your passport along with a cover note requesting to photograph the aircraft for personal purposes. Remember to also include your full name and address in the email. To speed up the process its ideal and polite to translate your cover note in to French. This can be easily done by typing your email as normal and then by copying and pasting it in to Google Translate. When its translated just copy and paste it back into your email and send. The process time is usualy 2-3 weeks or less and once issued its valid for life and best of all its free of charge.

Re: Spotting places at Paris CDG
Hello guys,
Yesterday was really great! The place where we spent the day (The Mound) was good for looking,
but not for taking pictures, there always was a pole in the picture.
A week ago we asked at Saint-Denis for a permission to take pictures,
and Wednesday we received that.
We been there from 10.00 (LT) till 19.00 (LT).
Here are some pictures:
