Extra flights to Johannesburg for World Cup final
KLM was very fast to react at the Orange team victory in the semifinals yesterday evening. Minutes later it announced the organistaion of three additional flights from Amsterdam to Johannesbourg. Sister company Air France adds also one extra flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle. All flights depart on 10 July and return on 12 July.

Apparently they are looking to fly about 8.000 fans from The Netherlands to JNB... If they pull this stunt this would mean they are going to send about 23 widebodies over there...
Don't know where they are going to find the capacity but it would be something if they achieve it.

They just have to ask India for advice how to organise a massive airbridge. India did this with the Gulf War to bring home thousands of workers from Iraq.Bralo20 wrote:Apparently they are looking to fly about 8.000 fans from The Netherlands to JNB... Corendon, a Turkish travelorganisation has just chartered 2 widebodies to fly fans from AMS to JNB. Tickets can be booked through Corendon (flight only). Corendon will use 2 Boeing 747's to fly to JNB.
Re: Three extra KLM flights to Johannesburg for World Cup fi
And the extra KL flights are sold out for the moment due lack of tickets for the final. (KL is only selling packages)

I'm changing in AMS the 10th in the morning... not looking forward to see everybody in Orange!
Maybe I should bring a Spanish or German flag?
Cheers,

I'm proud to inform you all that a Belgian company, The aviation factory, is also involved in this 'orange' airbridge!!
As an air charter broker we contracted aircraft for Dutch travel professional end clients!
The demand is really crazy as we're still working on more contracts.
Enjoy your day!

These will be the Hellenic Imperial B742's. Price for the return flight (no ticket included) is a whopping 2250 euro per personBralo20 wrote:Corendon will use 2 Boeing 747's to fly to JNB.

Re: Three extra KLM flights to Johannesburg for World Cup fi
In the Netherlands they are euphoric and say that playing the final - even without winning it - would show 0.5 % GDP increase by more spending.sdbelgium wrote:These will be the Hellenic Imperial B742's. People have to be pretty hopeless to pay that price and that sit in a 450 seaters Boeing 747 classic, if you ask me...
But talking to my Dutch customers and suppliers, they are not happy about this soccer madness.People stay away from work, TV sets are set up in offices, telephone calls are unanswered.
If you ask me, this 0.5% GDP growth might be an extra cost for the Netherlands.
See that high ticket price: that full airplane means an immidiate 1 million euro drain from the Netherlands.
Strange that the Phuket Air 747's are not involved. Oops, they are banned from European airspace. Too bad, Phuket Air. remain with your hadj flights.

It's not about the price, it's about being there to support for your team/country. I heard that many of the English supporters had lent quite some money from the bank to get them to the 2002 World Cup in Japan/South Korea, still paying off months after the event !sdbelgium wrote:These will be the Hellenic Imperial B742's. Hop Oranje..... I wished I was there!
Re: Three extra KLM flights to Johannesburg for World Cup fi
The other 2 742's from Helenic Imperial are also chartered by Corendon...
450 pax per flight at 2.250 EUR gives about 4 million EUR of income, quite a decent amount

My god , 2250 euro....... I can go 2x to Auckland NZ for that money! And if I really wanted to go to Johannesburg, I would take Egypt Air, for less then 1000...... (ok, not direct, that is true)
Re: Three extra KLM flights to Johannesburg for World Cup fi
The extra flight is operated by a 772, the regular flight by a 388sn26567 wrote: The extra AF flight will be operated by an Airbus A380.
