OST 27/05/2009
Teletekst shows for today a departure from Ostend to Chateauroux F-OHFR. Some web research shows this as an A320, last with Volare, supposedly in storage since 2008. What's going on? And isn't Chateauroux a aircraft graveyard in France, somewhat like those in US deserts?

It indeed landed at OST/EBOS and then did a testflight between COA and KOK (and later with MUAC).

Re: OST 27/05/2009
Excuse my ignorance: what's MUAC?
Edit: OK, found it for myself at Wikipedia. But Maastricht is only in charge from FL 195 upwards, right?

195 is the division between lower airspace and Upper airspace in belgium, and from FL245, Eurocontrol prvides air traffic control.jan_olieslagers wrote:Excuse my ignorance: what's MUAC?

Discussions are going on to raise that level.

Re: OST 27/05/2009
Strange that, I should think they'd rather lower the level where MUAC takes over? Single European Sky or what was it called?
Anyway, my real question was "did the poor A320 really have to climb that high on the rather short stretch from COSTA to KOKSY" - the full 67 km of Belgian coast...?

Depends on what piece of Air Space ATC is willing to give free for Test Flights.
I am sure ailerons of the A/C will have been tested sufficently. A lot of turning to stay inside that short piece of airspace

It was first doing some tests at lower level (between FL100 and FL140), but later continued to FL300 and above.jan_olieslagers wrote:Strange that, I should think they'd rather lower the level where MUAC takes over? Single European Sky or what was it called?

Such flights of course need to be coordinated first with the sectors concerned.
