Security lacks minimum hygiene

Post by Ducatibiker »

Now that the Brussels Airport Security has decided that you have to remove ALL your shoes, everyone walks - some bare feet - through the detectors. Why after one week and several complaints is there no carpet and enough chairs to put your shoes back on ?? Does it take one week to order a carpet ???

Better take an extra pair of sock and throw them away...

I just receive a private message that you are recommended to remove your shoes, you are not obliged. The person at the security this morning did not leave me any choice. Can I refuse next time to walk in the "dirt path" without shoes ? I sure don't want to delay the process by creating further chaos but it seems that the rules are very arbitrary.

Well, my experience from last week is: YES, you have a choice. The friendly lady asked me as well to put my shoes on the tray. When I was somewhat puzzled because of that (I am doing a number of flights, but no Airport ever has asked automatically before it beeps to remove all shoes) I asked her straight away "do I have to?" and she said "no, it is up to you, but it might take longer if it beeps and you than have to take your shoes off afterwards and walk through again". But I know my shoes  , they do not beep, and so I went through with my shoes and everything was fine.

In various Asian airports they kindly offer you slippers to walk through the detectors, in case you remove your shoes.

Hi,
When I left Birmingham BHX,UK last easter everyone had to ( no choice ! )
put off their shoes and belts.
All the shoes went through the scanner with the handluggage.
There were NO seats to put your shoes back in and NO carpet.
( just a lot of smelly air )
No one was complaining and because we won't be the ones to make problems of it,
we keep silent like the rest of the cattle.
You can't win anyway, since 9/11 every ridicoulous new rule is followed by all others.
No water,no shoes,no toothpaste,what's next.
In the '70/'80's when there were more active terrorist groups a real threat than know,
( that 1/2 muslim man with a bom in their shoe come'on??????? )
there was less hassle about.
But now they're trying to make profits ( politics & economics) about (some) people's fears,
but HEY,
that's just my opinion.
Greetings,

funny enough... as crew we too are scrutinised this way and I refuse to take of my shoes.
For sure if there are no facilities to make sure my socks go unharmed.
So it take 1 minute more, I prefer that over satisfying the Security personell's thirst for power!

What happens if you bring your own slippers and use those to walk past security, while your shoes get scanned?

Probably depending if it compulsory or voluntarily. If compulsory, you'll probably be take separate by security personnel and then the police comes on stage. But if you want to fly, just follow the rules no matter how stupid they appear. Same if you want to drive a car, for some people having to take a drivers exam to get a drivers license, seems stupid but hey that's the law and if you don't like it find a majority in Parliament to vote against it .

Clearly, the security agents at BRU did not get their "driver's licenses" or they got them in a lottery, since they cannot make a distinction between compulsory and optional rules.
