According to this report, Der Spiegel is set to publish this story on Monday (3/16).

Quote:
Dubai-based airline Emirates is unhappy with its first four giant Airbus A380 aircraft, which showed manufacturing faults that forced flights to be cancelled, a report said Saturday.
The German weekly Der Spiegel, in its issue to be published Monday, said Emirates in February gave Airbus officials a 46-page report listing its complaints, including burned electric cables, missing cabin fittings and engine defects.

A source close to Airbus told AFP on Thursday that Emirates was seeking a delay in the delivery of several of the long-haul A380 super jumbo jets because of financing difficulties.

would missing cabin fittings mean that some curtains are not well fixed? Or that some handles show some scratches?

It's funny how, when reading the article in der spiegel (in German, http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/0,1518,613326,00.html ), one could indeed come to the conclusion that EK really is unhappy with the A380, even though they are never directly quoted, and it all appears very much to be hearsay. Then, when EK themselves are asked to comment, the tone turns out to be quite a bit different:

"An Emirates spokeswoman confirmed on Sunday the carrier had met recently with Airbus executives to give them feedback on the A380's reliability performance. "Technical issues are expected with new aircraft, particularly one that uses many new technologies," she said. "Emirates has a good relationship with Airbus and we continue to work closely with them to address these technical matters. Airbus is pulling out all stops to sort things out."

The spokeswoman said that Emirates remained confident in the A380, adding that it was an "excellent" aircraft and that feedback from its customers had been "very positive". She said the company had no plans to cancel any orders."

A beautiful lesson in 'bias in journalism'. As far as facts are concerned, both articles basically say the same: EK has some issues, with the A380, informed Airbus, and Airbus is dealing with them. But der spiegel then laces that with big words like 'crisis meeting', 'very unhappy', and 'massive criticism', when in reality it seems to have been little more than a customer feedback meeting between EK and Airbus, the kind I imagine goes on quite regularly with airlines introducing new types.

Remember folks, this is Der Spiegel, a publication notorious for its bias against Airbus. Remember that this is the same der spiegel which, a few years ago, claimed the A380 would miss its fuel burn target by 10%, all because they were stupid enough to ignore that the numbers Lufthansa estimated were based on their seat layout, and those of Airbus were based on Airbus' standard layout. Even though their very clear mistake was pointed out to the repeatedly, the corrections were ignored, and the claim never retracted.
