2 Dutch F-16's sent out to intercept 767

Post by LX-LGX »

Luchtvaartnieuws.nl is referring to a press release from the Dutch Army:

at 14h33 on Friday, 2 F-16 flighters from the QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) at Leeuwarden Airforce Base have been sent out to intercept a B767, en route from Turkey to the U.S. The plane was in German airspace when radio contact was lost.

Before the F-16's had reached the 767, the radio contact was re-established.

No identification about the 767 has been given.

No sidestick: the original press release came from the Dutch Air Force's Headquarters: quite reliable, isn't it? Our friends from luchtvaartnieuws.nl - which I regard more as aviation business then as press - found out that the F-16's took off at 14h33 on 10th October 2008. Also, this time there was no interception this time, as the radio contact was re-established before the F-16's reached the 767. The F-16's then made a U-turn and the pilots returned to their base.
