The only info i found on this Mirage are :
-listed as operated by 1° sq (Chardons) in " Belgian Military Aviation 1945-1977"
-found a photo of the plane in "The Belgian Airforce 1946-1986" showing a Commet on the tailfin, so it served also with 2° sq.
that's all i found so far.

On 08/01/2004 I've visited Weelde AB and saw no BA-21.
The Only Mirage I Saw was BA-30

Mirage 5BA BA21 & BA30

Post by Laurent »

Hello,

I have the following information on this particular aircraft :

12/06/1991 damaged after an engine explosion and wfu
03/04/1994 arrived at Weelde for storage
12/1994 donated to Polish Air Force Academy in Deblin, delivered
on board 3 Belgian Air Force C130Hs and re-assembled
by Belgian Air Force personnel

So if you want to see the BA21 you will have to do some travelling.

The BA30 which is still at Weelde is held there to act as a reserve aircraft for the Brussels Air Museum, in theory it can be used as exchange material to obtain other aircraft from other countries.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Laurent

I was on that mission in December 1994 for the delivery of that Mirage to the Deblin Air Museum and made a report about that exchange for the former BAF magazine "Wings"
The transport was not done by 3 but 2 C-130's. The first with the fuselage, the second with the wings. As during the flight they find out that there was still fuel in the wings, this second C-130 had to return to Melsbroek.
Later on they were transported again, together with the engine.

In July 1996 the Brussels Air Museum received a TS-11 "Iskra" in returm from the Polish Air Force. This aircraft came -together with an other one for a museum in the UK- to the airshow in Koksijde. On monday after the airshow the one for the Brussels Air Museum did his last flight from Koksijde to Weelde where it was dismantled for his transportation later on to Brussels.

That monday I was in the back-seat of an A-Jet for the last air-to-air pictures of that Iskra.
Keep 'Em Flying !!
