I once saw a sort of emergency landing from BIMAN at Brussels.

It was on April 21, 2002. The Biman flight was approaching from JFK, but the center gear couldn't go out. They'd tried until the last moment to get it out, but about 10m before the runway the plane began to climb again. It flew a circle, and it tried a second time (still without center gear). It came down on the runway very hard with a lot of smoke, but it landed safely.

Regards, Robin Bamps.

I too would never fly BIMAN. I don't know if you remember an episode of ' het leven zoals het is' on TV1; SN tech saw a leak on the center landing gear, they reported it to the crew, and their first reaction was 'Only a leak' ... Now, after having seen that, I don't think I'll ever fly BIMAN, but I don't think I would've anyway
Exactly, and don't forget they don't have SN Technics in Dhaka

Thanks SS!

There was no OZ today in BRU, or it must have had a delay of several hours.

Do SN Brussels Airlines have an ETOPS certification?

Is it necessary for SN? I mean, they do not have to cross the ocean for several hours between Europe and Africa...

Frederic,

If they have the certification they don't need to wait for 6 months if they are planning to operate trans atlantic flights.

Correct, HL7438.

Also B-16102 was present, a recently converted MD11 (it's still under the pax version in the JP)

Yes, they have. The first 6 months Birdy wasn't ETOPS but now they can start trans-atlantic flights with ETOPS cert.

BI Airbus @ EBBR, usually DC10. Something to do with this?

Post by SN30952 »

Saudi Arabian Airlines and Biman Bangladesh Airlines have drawn up a schedule of 99 flights that they will equally share to transport 40,000 Bangladeshi Haj pilgrims from Dec. 26.
'All flights come to Jeddah from Dhaka. Additionally, 10 extra flights will be operated from Chittagong,' said A.M. Quamrul Hasan Khondker, Biman?s regional manager for the Western Province. Biman operates services to 26 international destinations, including New York.
Its fleet includes six DC10, four Airbus, three F28 and two ATP.
'We're planning to introduce services to Jakarta and Manila from Dhaka in due course,' he said.

More capacity on the DC10 for Haj?

These were flown with A310-200 equipment since these routes didn't require ETOPS.
I remember Sabena temporarily lost its ETOPS-certificate for A310-300 OO-SCC due to unreliable engines (reliability should be >99,9x %).

Correction SkyJet, there are some routes/destinations in Africa which require ETOPS as well. However, no big deal as these routes can be avoided just by a small route correction which bring you again within ETOPS limits/requirements.

Correct about SN having lost once their ETOPS on the A313. If my memory is correct, I think it even happened more then once.
