Czech airlines CSA orders 8 Airbus planes

Post by TallDutch »

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) The Czech state-run airline CSA said Wednesday it has ordered eight Airbus A319 planes as it continues to modernize its medium-range fleet.

The planes will be delivered between 2011-2012 and will replace aging Boeing 737s that the airline currently uses, CSA spokeswoman Daniela Hupakova said in a statement.

CSA said it signed a contract in 2004 to buy six A319 and six A320 jets to expand the fleet and to replace some older planes due to be retired. The contract included an option for the airline to get an additional eight planes in the future.

The airline was exercising the option now because ``CSA will necessarily need the new planes in the years 2011-2012,'' CSA President Radomir Lasak said.

Financial details were not given.

CSA currently has 50 planes, including medium-range Boeing 737s, Airbus jets A319 and A320, long-range A310 and short-range ATR42 and ATR72.

CSA, which offers flights to 104 destinations in 44 countries, carried a record of nearly 5.5 million passengers last year.

13 September 2007

The Czech national carrier CSA Czech Airlines has purchased a further eight A319s, firming up options placed in the initial contract signed with Airbus in April 2005. CSA has now firmly ordered a total of 20 Airbus single aisle aircraft and holds another four on option.

CSA Czech Airlines had selected the A320 Family to replace the older generation aircraft in its core European fleet, following a thorough evaluation of both the A320 Family and competing types.

Based in Prague, the airline offers a large choice of flights to Europe, Russia, North America and the Middle East. CSA plans to use these new aircraft to consolidate its services, especially to Russia and Eastern Europe, and to open up new markets. CSA Czech Airlines has chosen a comfortable two-class cabin configuration.

"Airbus forms a key element in the restructuring of our airline and with our ambitious plans for further development. A competitive aircraft fleet is an integral part of this plan" said Mr. Radomir Lasak, CSA Czech Airlines President and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

With the most modern design of any single-aisle aircraft, the Airbus A320 Family is best placed to deliver the lowest operating costs, making it the most economical aircraft in its class. Featuring the widest cabin in this category, the A320 Family offers passengers more space, comfort and overhead stowage volume, and ensures swift turn-arounds.

"It is always a compliment when a successful customer such as CSA orders more of our aircraft," said John Leahy Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, "This shows the customer's satisfaction with the A320's advanced technology and efficiency. We thank CSA for their renewed trust in Airbus, and congratulate CSA for their proven track record in punctuality."

Airlines and passengers alike value the A320 Family's impressive level of dispatch reliability, which further enhances profitability and passenger service.

More than 5,300 A320 Family aircraft have been ordered to date of which over 3,100 have been delivered to almost 200 customers worldwide, making it the best selling commercial jetliner ever.

Good to see! I hope that they order something to replace the A310s soon.... the 787-8 would look great in their livery!
