Sorry guys, according to "De Standaard" the aircraft involved is a C130. They also added a correct illustration of the C130. 8)

Belgische C130 landt met brandende motor in Schotland
However in the article itself they do start talking about an airbus A310.

They are so dumb that they don t see the difference....
The C-130 production chain has been bought over by Airbus and was moved to Toulouse... in top secret conditions.
Airbus hopes to avoid the Power 8 by sellling 3000 Airbus C-130.
SAS is a potential buyer for 50 of those to replace the scandalous Dash Q-8's.
Have a nice day

Hi Guys,
Indeed, the Belgian A310's are ex Singapore Airlines planes.
They are quite different than other A310's in some rather important details (I don't know them exact, but their mechanic told me).
Because of these differences to almost every other A310 produced, it is hard to find spares to replace some parts.
The military is complaining since some time about this problem.
Also, when they were acquired by the Belgian Government, they were already quite worn out by their previous users...
Due to the above and the fact that they have already logged an enormous amount of flight time, very reliable sources of the Belgian Air Force have told me they are seeking for replacements.
One option, and this one is the one currently in favour over all other proposals, would be to acquire some !!! A340's !!!
Furthermore, it is also almost decided that Embraer Legacy's will replace the 2 remaining Falcon 20's and 900.
A helpfull fact is that the military is very pleased with the Embraer 135 - 145 fleet they already have. Very reliable in use with only a few repairs from time to time.
Even though the Falcon 900 is younger, the Falcon 20's have been retro fitted with new avionics, electronics and engines. They will be the last to leave the fleet once the new Embraer's would arrive.

WOW, great news!!
I doubt about the A340's though, that's too big a plane to replace an A310... and Zaventem ain't gonna like it...(certainly if they need to take-off from Melsbroek at night)
It would be great if realised!!
I think an A332 would do the job...if at least there were any available on the market.
Maintenance wouldn t be an issue as BRUAIR has 4 of those.

A310 becoming a C130
Ha! There's an article now on vrtnieuws.net about a bird that seems to have a very long range.
As you guys just said about the A310 becoming a C130, vrtnieuws.net talks about a "Boeing 330".
http://www.vrtnieuws.net/cm/vrtnieuws.n ... _Trekvogel
It's a bit off topic here, but it shows that the Belgian media are not really familiar with aircraft types...
So, it's just to point out a same kind of error

What's wrong with a plane being big? Mind you the military have other criteria than an airline! A340's must be much easier to locate in today's market than A330's.FLY4HOURS.BE wrote:WOW, great news!!
