The only difference between the AN-72 and the AN-74 is pure technical : the AN-74 adds the ability to operate in harsh weather conditions in polar regions.
Exterior difference is only visible with the AN-74TK-300 version : this one has the engines mounted underneath the wings instead of on top of them. The single airframe of this kind is currently UR-YVA of the Ukrainian Gvmt VIP fleet.
