City Star airlines is a Icelandic company based at Aberdeen Airport and has announced it is going to start direct non-stop operations between ABZ and IAH in January 2008 with a 757-200 in an all first class configuration.
I assume it starts in Jan as they are extending the runway at ABZ shortly as it is definately not long enough at present....had a TOGA on a flight from London once!
THis is designed to take advantage of the considerable oil traffic between the two cities and looks like it will be 4 a week initially.

I used to do the Houston run every two weeks to Houston and back (usually in Economy) from ABZ but I will be pleasantly surprised if there is enough premium traffic to justify this. There are a lot of people at ABZ every morning (again mostly economy...) getting connections to IAH through CDG, LGW and AMS but I find it difficult to believe there will be enough premium traffic jumping ship from FF programs etc. Half of Aberdeen gets good vacations from their points ... myself included!
ABZ - IAH direct flights to start soon

After hearing about a potential ABZ-IAH flight for years, it's finally nice to see it announced.
Congratulations to Aberdeen on their first transatlantic route.
I think there will be enough passengers that pay a premium for a nonstop flight. This flight will cater to executive and upper management of the oil companies. With only 200 seats per week, I think it should sell well.
You're right about AF, BA, and KL offering FF programs that may keep the majority of passengers with them. City Star could align itself with one of those airlines and offer FF miles.

I hope for the best, but I still have serious doubts.Jet Blast wrote:I think there will be enough passengers that pay a premium for a nonstop flight. This flight will cater to executive and upper management of the oil companies. With only 200 seats per week, I think it should sell well.
