EBCI Closed Again
Not the union's fault, this time. Airport was closed at about 2000Z because of thuderstorms. ATIS was announcing gusts at 30kts
and closing until 0400Z. You should have seen all these Ryanairs lining up on the ILS approach of 05R in EBLG at 11PM. I was lucky to see that from the circuit (and sneak between two of them to land).
No, they stacked everyone on 5R. Personally I've never seen 5L/23R in use at EBLG. Anyway, I think they're too close for parallel landing.Acid-drop wrote:11pm is already very busy at LGG, since all TNT flights land in the same time.
Must have been a crazy rush hour
Do you know if they used the 2 tracks ? (is the second long enough for the 737 ? seems that they used it when the main one was on work)
I meant in the airfield standard right-hand circuit (crosswind/downwind/base/final). I was flying VFR so I had plenty of time looking at the arrival queue while doing my downwind.Acid-drop wrote:what do you mean by "see from the circuit ?"
Re: EBCI Closed Again
Gusts at 30 knots is nothing compared to the 18 January storm, why would the airport close just for that ? Or maybe crosswinds but I doubt it since they could land at Liege ?SFo wrote:Not the union's fault, this time. Airport was closed at about 2000Z because of thuderstorms. It is not the gust 30 that is the real problem but the very unstable direction of the wind and the big change of windshear.
We had thunderstorms last night blokking our apr to Ema coming from Bfs. Even the poor controller of Manchester Control was loosing control. Everyone was asking deviation due to weather. So she told to all aircraft "Just deviated as you want and only tell me your new heading" as it was really getting to busy. Specially as a big cell was located near the standard holding point.
Later we had the same problem in Bru as a big thunderstorm was located near Bun.

Liege was pretty calm at the same moment, not even raining and W/V 110/10. If the wind was gusting at 30kts on 110 and it was heavily raining it can be much of a problem in Charleroi as 07 only has a VOR/DME and no ILS. Besides, Liege as Cat I-III on both RWYs.stefanel wrote:Gusts at 30 knots is nothing compared to the 18 January storm, why would the airport close just for that ? 23L is CAT I, II and III.
05R and 23R are CAT I only.
05L has no ILS.
Source: AIP.
The reason why 05L/23R is not used as a runway at this moment can be found in the NOTAM (WIP).
Kind regards,
Sebastian

Not sure at all, I didn't check the CATs.Stella_Caeli wrote:Are you sure?![]()
