FlyLAL Boeing 737 pilot could not locate runway at Hurghada and landed on taxiway instead yesterday. Luckily it was empty.
ILS was off but still pilot error - all the pilots that know how to fly have already left the company.
And in lithuanian forums airline employees say that pilots fly to 4 different airports daily and therefore cannot know each airport (at Hurghada taxiway once was a runway and is similar to one) and this is realy ok, no big accident.
Flylal after privatisation is really a real estate company. All the assets that are worth something are already transfered to another companies. They are are still flying only to get hands on Vilnius airport land, which is very near Vilnius center. (They are trying to build other buildings in place of hangars they have in airport territory without airport permission. For time being they call it 'new private terminal', but the project doesn't look like one)

It's indeed very confusing in Hurgada. Where is the runway, where is the taxiway? A good approach briefing can avoid mistakes...

I have flown to Hurghada last week, and at night the runway is clearely lit and there is no mistake possible with the TWY. I don't know what the situation is at the moment, but at the beginning of the week, the LOC of the ILS was still working, and there is a VOR APP as well. And you always have to brief the airport as well, otherwise you get mistakes. Fortunatly there was no traffic on TWY.
