Ryanair to open Amsterdam base

Post by Charlie Roy »

According to this article Ryanair plan to launch a route between Santiago de Compostela and AMSTERDAM on September 1st!

Does this mean an Amsterdam base?!
Could it also mean that the aircraft planned to arrive in Charleroi on September 1st will instead go to Amsterdam due to a delay with Charleroi's new terminal?

I would have found the thought of an Amsterdam base fairly improbable except for MOL recently saying that FR are going to have to start flying to bigger airports. And considering that FR fly to Madrid, then why not Amsterdam?

Strange though how FR would agree to expand in the Netherlands given that aviation taxes there are set to sore, but then that's happening in nearly every European country right now.
Aer Lingus pondrá en marcha un par de conexiones a la semana entre la capital gallega y la irlandesa, Dublín. Y, por la otra, Ryanair pretende establecer un puente diario con Amsterdam (Holanda) a partir del 1 de septiembre.

I think they mean Eindhoven with 'Amsterdam'.
Not only because Eindhoven is sometimes called Amsterdam as well, but Ryanair also has a lot of slots at Eindhoven starting at Sep the 1st. Amsterdam doesn't have any Ryanair slots

eindhoven would make sense but ... you can notice that eindhoven have only destinations that charleroi had before ...

So Charleroi is the test lab, and if it works, they can provide the same to dutch people without the need to travel 300km.

But maybe i'm only half wrong and both charleroi and eindhoven are gonna get santiago ? :)

I don´t know why, but if you check Aena´s website, at Valencia´s airport there is scheduled a daily Ryanair´s flight to Amsterdam Schiphol. Obviously every day this flight is cancelled, but it´s something strange, and therefore I think the idea of a new Ryanair´s base at Schiphol airport can´t be so fare.
Here it is:

Ryanair have not request any slot to of Airport Coordination Netherlands for Amsterdam for summer 2007. So the above info from Aena´s website is incorrect.

As personal experience I doubt that after that Ryanair will opne in a short term in AMS, more likely they will expand in Eindhoven. However given the new base they announced in Weeze (100km from Eindhoven) I doubt that this will go over a certain extent
