Getting to LGG

Post by nry50 »

Hi there,

I wish to visit Bierset on the 12th May for the heli day (and the freighters.)
Will be coming by train from Cologne. Is it possible to get to the airport from Guillemins Railway Station by public transport? Have looked on the airport website and it only gives directions by car. Any help most appreciated.

Kind regards,

Neil. :?

Reaching Bierset by public transport is rather difficult. You can try with website www.infotec.be

Here is what they recommend:

Bus 1 direction Coronmeuse to LIEGE Place St-Lambert (12 min.).
Bus 53 direction Jemeppe to GRACE-HOLLOGNE Mahay (29 min.).
Walk to BIERSET Aéroport (19 min.)

The public transportation between the main train station and the airport is quite bad indeed. That's because the airport is mainly used for cargo operations.

They might have some special bus for the occasion though, the airshow is quite a big thing.

In any case, remember that the main bus station of the city is at the main square and surounding : Place Saint-Lambert. From there, you can eat, sleep, ask information, and take any bus to anywhere. To go there from the Guillemins train station, you have a bus every 5 min.

Here the map of Liège bus system, but you'll see it's so huge that it might not help you that much (Liège airport is at the extreme west of the map)

A single bus ticket is 1,30 euro. If you have to use more than 1 bus to go to destination, you dont have to buy another ticket.

Finally, if you have a car, concider using it. It's only 1h30 min driving and the parking at liege airport is easy and free.

Note also that the airshow is at the military air base.
The civil airport is at the other side.
There will be some bus between the 2.

Also note that most of cargo flight are during the night and during weekdays.
It's not rare to see some B747 though.

Hi nry50,

You may find more info on the mil.be site
http://www.mil.be/aircomp/subject/index ... U=0&PAGE=5

Contact for spotters is :

Patrick Wauters
Responsable spotters
Tél :+32(0)42507379
e-mail : mailto:patrick.wauters2@mil.be

30 EUR for 4 days, Fri to Monday.

Think that the entrance will be from the mil side, i.e. Velroux village on the NW of EBLG.

Hope this helps.
