I wonder what the age of this craft was.

The reason is quite simple: experienced (Muslim) Indonesian pilots are recruited by the rich and rapidly expanding carriers of the (Muslim) Middle East.
These carriers can afford the best Indonesian captains, who can fly with them as first officers at much higher wages than in Indonesia.
The less best Indonesian pilots remain with the Indonesian carriers, who tell them they are not worth high wages...
And that's the beginning of a downward spiral.
The less bests replace the bests, and so on. Imagine what is sitting behind the wheel there...
Note, Australia is also suffering too of the phenomenon, with many skilled pilots, engineers, systems and standards personnel being recruited to the tax-friendly career opportunities offered in the UAE and Singapore.
That is what I call predation for years in these forums.
If people die in air disasters so often in Indonesia*, that is because predators took away their skilled pilots, engineers, systems and standards personnel.
These Middle East carriers are killing airlines and their clients. That is the predation.
So simple as that. And flying with them is sponsoring that predation.
PIA has seen its fleet decimated, Air India has to hire CSA aircraft and crew. Many Western airlines will have to give up Asian destinations.
How to resist to predation?
Not all destinations should be taxed the same rate: airport taxes should be geographically determined. Poor (African) people should pay less than rich (Middle East) people. Democratic regimes should receive extra incentives. And predators should not be welcomed.
So simple as that.
Poor Asians and Africans should not die because other rich people can fly or make money.
*Read and Africa.
The only reasonable option is to blame those who actually are responsible for crashing a plane.SN30952 wrote:No, blaming the weakest is the easiest option.PlaneHunter wrote:What a ridiculous post - blaming anyone else is always the easiest option... PH
So so, and just in case it turns out the crews weren't skilled enough, where did the skilled crews go?PlaneHunter wrote:Just in case it turns out the crews weren't skilled enough, then it's mainly the airline's fault to hire and place into the flightdeck insufficiently skilled pilots. PH
It's an airline's task to ensure that crews are skilled or sufficiently trained - if it can't find enough qualified pilots, it shouldn't expand. If they neglect safety it's not any other airlines' fault.SN30952 wrote:So so, and just in case it turns out the crews weren't skilled enough, where did the skilled crews go?
The skilled captains, the skilled check pilots, the skilled trainers... that is.
