Saudi leaves Ostend for Brussels
At the end of this month Saudi Arabian Airlines Cargo will leave Ostend for Brussels. Since july 2004 SVA flew three times a week from Saudi Arabia to the States (NY and Houston) and back with a stop in Ostend using a 747-200. They will make their stops in Brussels now.

Well actually it should have already happened earlier if you can believe the Brussels Airport site. Full of Saudi Cargo flights but always cancelled and it seems that EBOS has plenty enough
where they too early with that anouncement?
What's the reason for the EBOS departure? I thought they left BRU because of the higher taxes, now it seems they still want to continue with BRU although the higher taxes.

Don't forget that BRU is one of, or let us say, the most important cargo hub for SV. And operating two airports in one single small country is one to much.
I'm curious if they are going to use both B747 on routes to and from BRU.
Moving the B747 from BRU to OST was due to the night restrictions. But fact is that OST is losing cargo on a high speed. I also heard rumors, yes I know its only a rumour, that Egyptair is also not satisfy.

SV is leaving because the high fuel prices in OST in comparason with BRU. That is to be the only reason. With the loss of SV their will be a significant drop in Cargo. About MS that rumour is going on for years...
In general you can say that OST operators has a yes-no politic, just because of the fuel prices, that because of the monopoly of skytanking. If an operator is complaining about the fuel, most of the time Skytanking is dropping the price price a bit, to ease them down, to rise them a few months later and the rumours starts back over. The same with the handling. SV had enough of this game, a shame...
The fuel politic and the handling will be a big issue in the future of Ostend.
Also in Brussels you have this problem, their you have a handling problem.
The problem is that the handling companys doesn't find enough motivated people as well in OST as in BRU. That also a shame, because an airport can have a good infrastructure but if you haven't a good handling company, the airport can't funtion...
That's the real problem where some higher persons in OST and maybe also in BRU have to care about instead of seeking other operators, first make the airport attractive and efficient. It's no use to attract operators when you can't offer good services...

OST isn't loosing cargo. Look at the figures on the website.
OST is an airport who has to fight for it's cargo and customers every day. It isn't brought on a dish by politics, etc.
But we're having a typical belgian discussion here. Instead of beeing patriotic, people like to give negative comment on an other, are beeing childish jalouse,... while foreign countries get the benefits. (Why is DHL going to LEJ? Why is MST groing much faster? ...). :dammit:
I've been working in different airports in and out Belgium. My opinion is that people at handling companies are always the black sheep. Everyone has to make out for their own if they are giving the best of themselfs and are serving their clients in the best way.
Who of you-all-giving-comment has worked at BRU ánd OST? The great thing about OST is that handlingstaff there are very polyvalent. As a groundstaff (office and non-office) you do every section of import, export, ops and tarmac everyday. Not just one piece of the handling-puzzle. Don't blindly critizise people, but ask yourself first if your talking is worhtwile.
And about rumours MS leaving OST... That's called bisune$$, cat and mouse! :insult:
Air industry is growing. Who knows what's going to happen? Just keep up the good work. Be happy in what you do, or stop doing it.
If OST dies, I would die with it. But OST is groing, and so do I. :mexwave:

I think when people say BRU is the 7th largest airport , than it MUST be concerning cargo-flights.
I must say that I can indeed be proud on the row of cargo airliners visiting BRU nowadays although their are still few less cargo flights and cargo airliners than end '90s and begin 2000-2001. Although there are a lot of cargo flights a day (non- DHL flights). Look at all those 747's a day.
The figures will unfortunatly drop steep when DHL leaves I'm afraid , but I think BRU will be able to keep a strong position on the cargo market.
It also has a lot to do with the Antwerp harbour. At least that's what they've once told me.

A few years ago DHL is taken over by Deutsche Post, a few years later there are gone to LEJ why...? because its cheaper and because the centerpoint for parcels and packages isn't BRU anymore because the joining of many eastern coutries to the EU. One thing I know for example, Nuremburg airport closes his DHL station over there, the DHL employees can go with them to LEJ, with a cutback of 40% (no kidding) of their salary...UFO wrote: But we're having a typical belgian discussion here. MST is going well, aswell as other Dutch airports, because the dutch people are not affraid to take a statement if it goes about aviation, look at the nightflight-politics in Belgium, is that a way of working...no...

OST, I asked for a forklift, within five min somebody was there, one problem... the driver didn't understand dutch, french or english, only a bit german... try then to explain what you need from that guy...
OST, AIN DC8 ready to depart, no pushback driver available just before 22h, no DC8 flights allowed after 22h, flight cancelled...
BRU, MP 767 lands at 03h crew has to wait for 1/2h for their bus, handling company knew A/C came in at that hour for at least five hours before...
BRU, MP 767 AOG moved to a remote gate, handling material/personnel not available for at least 1/2h hour...
and I can go on... to outsiders those examples are maybe not significant enough but in all those cases it goes about a lot of money, and you have to keep your customer happy or they going elswhere, to another handling company, or if no others are avialable to another airport, like MST and many other growing airports...
Look in all those examples and many others I'm not critisising the people that actually work on the floor, because I have at most respect for these people, but those that are above them, they have to do more efforts to attract more people/material to make it work...
